Making money on a DUD fan's denial

This morning before class some of us were waiting outside since the room was locked. A guy in our class comes up and we started talking about PS3 vs 360 and blu vs hd and so on (forgot how the convo started, never really spoken to the kid before). And I told him that Toshiba just released a statement saying that they are canceling HD. He said it's bs and that HD will win because of the porn industry I said seriously, they just discontinued it over the night local time because of the time change. He still stuck to the fact that HD was better and was gonna win.

Me - How much you wanna bet is already dead?

Him - How much you got on you?

Me - No, how much do you have on you, since it's me that will be winning.

-He looks in his wallet-

Him - $40 bucks

Me - Let's raise the stakes, I'll quadruple it if I'm wrong. (Hell no I didn't have it on me, yet I had nothing to lose )

Him - And if you're right?

Me - The money plus, before class you have to get up in front of everyone and explain why Blu-ray is better and how I'm just bitter about the whole situation of me losing owning a 360 and HD add-on.

Him - You're on. Can't wait to buy some HD's with your $160 bucks.

So we shake on it, get into class and I pull my laptop out. I even gave him a chance to take it back and cancel the bet. He says no and I just go to yahoo and show him the news.

He is speechless. It was amazing. He got up in front of our class (about 50 junior and senior finance and accounting majors) and fulfilled his end of the bargain. Most of the people in there were like WTF is he talking about? What is he doing? It was timeless.
