Default Manos: Hands Of Fate (1966)

I just got this the other day. It's 70 minutes of nonsense. But the wierd thing is that I got a kick out of how bad the film is. Has anyone else seen this?

Is that on Blu-ray? I've never seen it but i've definately heard it mentioned in the same vein as Plan 9 From Outer Space. I'm sure there is a Mystery Science Theater 3000 of it. Falls into the so bad it's good category.

It's actually the most popular MST3K episode of all time!

In fact it's the only way most people have heard of it. Myself included....really dumb movie.

I've never heard of anyone talking about the movie who WASN'T talking about the MST3K version (and then usually out of fanboyism for the episode):

Like no one had heard of Ed Wood or Plan 9 before the Medved Golden Turkeys, Manos was virtually unknown before Joel, Crow and Servo cemented "the haunting Torgo theme" into our heads.

The film is in Public Domain, not the MST3K version. Yeah, 70 minutes of garabage. But atleast it's good time killer. I've probably watched it about 3 times since I got it. Plus, I think the dad was a bit of an ass and got what he deserved at the end.

I have this MST3K on DVD. It has both the original version and the version where they joke. The joke version is great. You know right off how bad the movie is, because the scientists actually apologize to Joel for making him watch it . Don't think that happens any other time. As for the original version. I tried watching it once, but after the first 15 minutes of nothing but landscape as they drive the car, I had to turn it off. Without the jokes it physically hurt to watch this.

(Dad shoots the Master)
(The Master only sneers haughtily)

<Basil Fawlty> "Oh, thank you very much...Shot in the face."

(Ten minutes of nightie catfight-wrestling)
"And discussions break down at the Russian Parliament!"
"It's the Manos Townswomen's Guild Re-Enactment of the Battle of Pearl Harbor..."

Is it on Blu-ray? I would love a Blu-ray special edition that has both versions.

No, sadly, its in Public Domain hell with no copyrights. I doubt a studio would want to invest on something that can be pirated without breaking copyright laws.

That and no one would watch it.....unless it had the MST3K commentary.

Manos is considered by many to be the worst movie ever made, and I certainly can't argue with that assessment. I've seen a few turkeys that possibly match its badness, like Red Zone Cuba and Monster a Go Go, but I've never seen anything worse. Simply inept on every single level and completely lacking that cheesy charm that makes Plan 9 fun to watch.

But hey, at least Torgo is creepy.

It's number or seven or eight on the IMDB's Bottom 100 right now. I saw the Hotel Torgo documentary on Youtube. It has the guy who was the teen making out with the girl. He was the only person that they could track down. Supposedly, everyone else died off throughout the years. I know that John Reynolds who played Torgo had overdosed on pain killers the same year the film was released. I think if he was still living, he might have gotten more work. He's a freakin' awesome creppy character.

I've seen it on MST3K, an unintentionally hilarious movie in the same realm as Plan 9 From Outer Space. I love those kind of movies!

(Master spreads hand-cloak)
"Y'know, I kinda wish those hands would just push him over..."

(I don't know why I break up helplessly laughing at that line, but it's one of the Joel-era MST3K's classics.)
