United Kingdom Life - Blu-ray BBC documentary

I watched this on TV the other night, fantastic new material here folks. I can't wait to see this on blu ray.

Amazon are bundling Planet Earth for an extra £10. Thats 8 or 9 discs of documentary goodness for under £50. Bargain.

Standalone - http://www.amazon.co.uk/Life-Blu-ray...7914503&sr=1-1

Bundle - http://www.amazon.co.uk/Planet-Earth...7914503&sr=1-2

Managed to pre order this for £28.99 from movie mail as they mistakenly priced it at the dvd price for a while.

A lot of BBC Blu-rays (Torchwood, Doctor Who, Robin Hood) are 1080i. Does anyone know if this is interlaced or progressive?

That's what I was wondering too, Planet Earth is 1080i as well.

Here is a quote from the back of the life box set

Video Format : 1080p
(some short elements of the programme are interlaced - ie the credit rollers)

According to a user on avsforum, the menu and episodes are in 1080i/50 but it IS Region Free

Can anyone else confirm this? I'm in the US, and even though I have a PC Blu-Ray drive, I'd prefer to use my PS3.

If that's the case, the BBC really need to start looking into the way these discs are produced/packaged. They make far too many careless mistakes concerning the content of their BD releases.

These are not shot on film. Therefore the 1080p/24 that we are used to is not applicable. I wouldn't get too upset about it, your making it sound like they downgraded the original content, but more than likely its raw untouched footage.

I'm not complaining about the content, just the lack of clarity about the product. I'm quite happy with whatever the raw untocuhed footage is, but is it that hard to put the right information on a box?

To confirm: the episodes are in 1080i50 meaning they will not play in a US PS3, correct?

I see your point entirely. It seems that since blu ray was released there is little to no quality control when it comes to identifying the content on the packaging.

Can you tell me the exact model of your player?

I heard that this would be region free before release and pre-ordered it. Now it's here and, obviously, it's not working on my PS3.

I'm looking into getting a cheap standalone player that can handle it. I heard that some US TVs won't take 50hz, but that some players will output 50hz at 60hz. Would the conversion affect quality? I was looking at getting a refurbished Samsung BDP1500.

Basically I'm just not sure what exactly I need to make this stuff work and I don't want to end up buying the wrong player. If someone can recommend me something cheap--preferably around $100--I'd appreciate it. I don't mind buying used or refurbished.

What firmware version number is your region A Panasonic DMP-BD30? And when you press the info/display button on the TV while playing this disc does it say 60hz?

I purchased this Blu Ray from the BBC and was very VERY disappointed to see that it does NOT work on my ps3.

It plays the "2entertain" logo, then a short "BBC earth" logo, then the screen goes black and you cant do anything. This is seriously saddening, i was so excited to see this.

SO what do I do? can anyone tell me? Do i need to buy another blu ray player?

thank you so much for any help.
