This thread is for all the new people to get acquainted with some of the terms you will be seeing. I don't know all the terms myself so I'm going to list some and people who know more than me can PM me with the means or post them in this thread and I will update the first post or have a mod update the first post.

Well let’s get started.(Some definitions received from forum members, wiki, and AVS.)

Common Movie Terms

OAR-Original Aspect Ratio-This is a common thing to see when people refer to how a movie was originally shot. Common Aspect ratios are 1.85:1 and 2.35:1. Most people prefer the OAR of a movie because they want to view the movie how the director originally intended as opposed to it being changed just to fill the TV screen.

Common Blu-Ray Terms

BDA-Blu-Ray Disc Association-Abbreviation for the collective companies that support the Blu-Ray Disc format

BD-Blu-Ray Disc-The most common abbreviation of “Blu-Ray Disc”

BD-J-Blu-Ray Java-This is a derivative of the regular JAVA programming language. It is used on Blu-Ray movies to provide more animated menu’s and mini-game extras on some Blu-Ray movies.

BD-50-50GB Blu-Ray Disc-Abbreviation for a Blu-Ray Disc with a 50GB capacity




Other Common Terms

PCM or LPCM-Linear Pulse Code Modulation-Form of lossless audio that is truer to the audio master of the film. Some BD’s have used 16, 20, and 24 Bit LPCM Audio.

Dolby True HD-Dolby TrueHD is a new lossless audio codec but is packed to save disc space, A Dolby TrueHD bitstream can carry up to 14 discrete sound channels. Sample-depths up to 24 bits/sample and audio sample-rates up to 192 kHz are supported. For Blu-ray, TrueHD's capabilities are the same: the program may carry up to 8 discrete audio channels, at a sample depth & rate of 24-bit/96 kHz. The maximum (disc) encoded bitrate is 18 Mbit/s, although movie-titles (thus far) have remained below 5 Mbit/s. All TrueHD players are capable of downmixing the decoded TrueHD audiotrack to an arbitrary number of channels more suitable for player output. For example, all TrueHD-capable players can create a 2-channel (stereo-compatible) downmix from a 6-channel source audiotrack.

DTS-HD MA-Digital Theater Systems High Definition Master Audio-Previously known as DTS++ and DTS-HD, DTS-HD Master Audio supports a virtually unlimited number of surround sound channels, can downmix to 5.1 and two-channel, and can deliver audio quality at bit rates extending from DTS Digital Surround up to lossless (24-bit, 96 kHz). DTS-HD Master Audio is selected as an optional surround sound format for Blu-ray. However, currently there is only Japanese version Pioneer BDP-LX80 support bitstream digital output (not decode) of the format, while all Blu-ray players can decode the DTS "core" resolution soundtrack at 1.5 Mbit/s.

DTS-HD HR-Digital Theater Systems High Definition High Resolution-Like DTS-HD Master Audio, DTS-HD High Resolution audio is an extension to the original DTS audio format. It delivers up to 7.1 channels of sound at 96 kHz sampling frequency and 24 bit depth resolution. DTS-HD High Resolution Audio is selected as an optional surround sound format for Blu-ray Disc with constant bit rates up to respectively 6.0 Mbit/s. It is supposed to be an alternative for DTS-HD Master Audio where disc space may not allow it.

It was updated yesterday.
It's in alphabetical order, look at BD-Live. I sent it yesterday.

BD-Live adds network connectivity to the list of mandatory functions and increases mandatory local storage capability to 1 GB.
