In specific roles, I like Eastwood as Bill Munny in Unforgiven, and Kilmer as Doc Holliday in Tombstone.

If I were to pick one and only one, I will go with the most iconic role in western ever

Gary Cooper as Will Kane in High Noon

Western Star? If you are talking about sheer presence then its John Wayne without question. Acting ability and directing I prefer Eastwood.

For me, it's a tie between Henry Fonda as Wyatt Earp in My Darling Clementine and as Frank in Once Upon A Time In The West (my favorite Western).

So, if I had to vote favorite Western actor it would be Fonda. But as far as who I consider the best? As Elvis said, The Duke.

If you are talking one single performance there is none better in this genre than Robert Duvall and Tommy Lee Jones in Lonesome Dove. Great acting and just a great Mini Series. As good as BoB in a different genre of course.

Well for every 5 terrible roles he had, Kevin Costner had a great western. Dances with Wolves and Open Range are two of my all-time favorites so I'm gonna go against the grain and for those roles alone, choose Costner not for a razzie but for the ability to kick off an incredible gunfight.

I would honestly say for modern day western star, Costner shines. Westerns and political movies seem to be his forte and I was excited to hear he has a new western coming up that he plans to star in and direct (Horizon)

As much as I love Eastwood, the insanely terrible dubbing in all of Sergio Leone's films make those impossible for me to enjoy. They used 14 year olds, to dub the 5 year old children, and they just sounded awful.
