USA Salvador (1986) - September 9, 2014 - Limited to 3,000 copies

PRE-ORDER http://www1.screenarchives.com/title...SALVADOR-1986/

IMDB - 7.5 ( 13,130 users )

Rotten Tomatoes - 92% ( 24 reviews counted )

Quote:
Special Features: Isolated Score Track / Audio Commentary with Director Oliver Stone / "Into the Valley of Death" - The Making of Salvador / Deleted Scenes / Original Theatrical Trailer
Quote:
"It broils, snaps and explodes with energy." -Los Angeles Times

Nominated for two Oscars®, this "gripping" (Newsweek), semi-biographical account of photojournalist Richard Boyle's tumultuous experiences in war-torn El Salvador "has a power you can feel" (The Hollywood Reporter)! James Woods gives his "fullest, most humane, most emotional performance" (New York Magazine) to date in this "gritty, harrowing and bold thriller" (Gannett Newspapers~~).

It's 1980. Young men, women and children are being brutally killed in a bloody civil war in El Salvador. It's a horrific setting... but a perfect one for Richard Boyle, a sleazy war photojournalist whose career needs a jumpstart. Armed with his camera, Boyle joins the front lines in an attempt to capture atrocious-but-valuable images of the pain and horror. But with each picture he takes, he catches a tragic side of humanity that ignites his long-buried compassion. And he unexpectedly discovers something that will change him forever: his soul.

Great news. I can't pick a favourite Oliver Stone movie, but this one comes awfully close.

Am looking forward to this for sure. Hopefully all the DVD extras will port over. The deleted material is actually worthwhile and the "Into The Valley Of Death" documentary is top notch.

I don't know why anyone would pay the scalper prices. The Masters of Cinema "region b" blu ray worked fine on my region a player.

Quite a few OOP TT titles that Eureka released will work on any player due to how they’re authored.

There's actually a funny screen that pops up and says, you really shouldn't be allowed to watch this disc but we are going to let you anyway, just don't do it again.

I own both releases and the Eureka lacks the original burnt in location markers etc and has some fugly player generated ones instead. Might be a small/nothing thing for some people but still worth mentioning . I love to have the OG text whenever possible so the Twilight Time remains my 'go to' disc.

I’ll never understand why certain territories with the same master have odd quirks like that (the UHDs of “Caino” and “Scarface” are recent examples of this).

It's a total crapshoot. Eureka's release of another similarly themed 1980s MGM title - Under Fire (1986) - actually retained all the OG text (if my spotty memory serves), which was nice. So I don't know how these things shake out either

Defintely worth mentioning. The newly generated subs on the Eureka disc bothered me. A disappointment coming from the Master of Cinema label. The Twilight Time is OOP now. Shame.
