With all of the 3-D movies, coming out the past couple months, and with many more of the way, it seems to be the more popular way to present movies these days.
However, my preference is to watch a movie that was filmed with IMAX cameras, such as The Dark Knight and Transformers 2. To me, there seems to be much more of a Neo "Whoa!" factor when I see a movie in IMAX than in 3-D. So, which do you guys prefer? Movies shot in IMAX or movies shot in 3-D? I'm sure he is seriously considering it, but the problem is the cameras themselves. They are very heavy and more importantly VERY loud. Nolan likes to capture dialogue on the set and the current IMAX cameras are so loud that this is not possible. The audio for TDK was done primarily through ADR in a recording studio. Nolan doesn't like that.

I assume you've seen Blu-ray on a nice size HDTV. Imagine an even better level of clarity but on a 70 foot tall screen. It is incredible, and with good filmmaking the audience feels like they are part of what's going on. I noticed you have The Dark Knight in your Blu-ray collection. There is a moment at the very beginning of the film where a couple of guys go from one building to another on a zipline. The camera is above them so the audience is looking down at this zipline action. It was filmed in IMAX and audiences who were able to see the film in that format got to experience a "falling" sensation, almost as if you are on the zipline yourself. The screen is so huge and the clarity is so great that you are completely immersed into it. The screen covers your entire field of vision. It's absolutely stunning to watch IMHO, far better than 3D.

The chase scene through Gotham was also the stunning. With IMAX, you get awesome sound and picture |

![]() Partially a result of the fact that TDK has more than 3 times as much IMAX footage (30 minutes vs. 9 minutes) and partially a result of the fact that Chris Nolan's Director of Photography Wally Pfister is a much better photographer than the guy who worked on TF2 (Ben Seresin). |
