Default Are you jealous?

Interesting thread on AVS that hasn't turned into a pissing match even after 1 week:

http://www.avsforum.com/avs-vb/showthread.php?t=886318

To be honest, I'm only interested in Eternal Sunshine of the Spotless Mind. The rest I can live without, although I really hope we can get V soon.

On the other hand, if I'm on the other side of the fence, I'll be dying for at least

Casino Royale
Closer
Kingdom of Heaven
Black Hawk Down
Chicken Little
Layer Cake

not even counting the movies coming out the rest of the year (Dracula, Memoir of a Geisha, CE3K, Cars, etc.).

I guess I'm saying I'm happy to be here.

enjoy

they do have a few titles i'd like but I can live with that... for now, all I need is V For Vendetta but now that they announced it WILL be out then i'm happy just knowing that and alot of movies till then will hold me over when it actually is released.

i'll list the ones I want tho I guess, V For Vendetta, Constantine, Frightners, the Bone Collector, the Adam Sandler films(still questioning if they'd actually look good in HD tho?) and Van Helsing

thats all that really comes to my mind right now... hmm...

While there are some Uni titles I would like, I can honestly say I'm not jealous with their recent track record. Shooter was a really good movie but I didn't purchase it since they didn't provide lossless audio. I certainly wouldn't buy any of Uni's titles that didn't have lossless audio or that was given one of their 3 star transfers. The same thing goes for Warner, I'm not buying any of their HD DVD ports ( I caved on 300 but it at least had lossles audio).

I feel like some of the studios just don't get it, we didn't spend tons on our home theaters to watch above average source material.

There are a few titles from Uni I want, but mostly stuff I dont mind waiting for. The only two eating away at me are Hulk and Breakfast Club. I would LOVE to own both of these, as they are up there with some of my favorite movies of all time.

Serenity would be the first one. Bourne, Kevin Smith movies and Hot Fuzz/Shawn of the Dead would probably have all found their way into my collection if they were Blu. I am impressed with how civil that discussion has remained.

Children of Men, Friday Night Lights, Hot Fuzz, definately the Bourne Series, The Big Lebowski, Eternal Sunshine....truthfully there are quite a few Uni titles I would love to have in the collection right now. I know they don't compare to the titles Blu-ray has put out but I have to admit they do have a decent number of good titles in their catalog. For now I guess all I can do is wait it out. Hopefully sometime in 2008 we can see this thing coming to an end.

Nope, not really. Nothing to be jealous about.

I wouldn't mind the Bourne films and a few other strays like that but there's so much action on this side that I have more than enough to keep well pleased until those come to Blu someday.

Man, you guys make me scratch my head and wonder. I actually traded away Children of Men and Serenity. Children of Men although cool and differnt was a bit crazy and weird to me. I like it all up until the point where he walks out with the baby, out of the huge apartment complex and they stop fighting only to resume when he get's out. Movie was just too weird for me, lol.

Serenity was pretty good I thought, but it just didn't cling on to me for some reason. To others, some people are attached to Serenity as if it's another good Episode of STar Wars or something, and that didn't happen for me at all. Bourne series is great, love them although I'm not entirely sure how high the replay value is. I'm really enjoying just watching my Blu Rays these days. This is really a case of one side apppears to be bluer then the otherside, but let me assure you guys that your side is the Bluist!!!! Don't be envious, there is really nothing over here.

I'm sure I would have bought a lot of the Universal titles if they were available on Blu-ray, and had better PQ. But titles that really make me jealous (or itching for a change) are:

Serenity
Bourne
Pitch Black/Chronicles of Riddick
Kevin Smith films
And of course many of the Warner MIA

I notice that somehow there are HD DVD people who truelly think they want few to none Blu-rays.

Somehow their film interests are now controlled by whether it is available on HD DVD or not? That's zealotry to a new level.

The only one I was jealous of was:

Flyboys (oddly enough)
Wow, quite the HD fan that guy. Broadcast is good enough. Explains a lot.

Any HD dvd fan that doesn't say he's jealous of Blu Ray is lying to you. That's a FACT. I was one, and I switched over and I've bought more blu rays in 2-3 weeks then I've ever owned in HD DVD's.

Interesting how many HD-DVD guys are saying "after reading these, it realized I made the right choice"

Is there no end to the self delusion and rationalization.

Anyone seriously buying into either format and not wanting titles available only on the other is definitely deluding themselves. Or showing immense spite against others.

Somehow there has been a perfect split? Somehow a certain studio or studios release the only movies you want over 50 years?

More likely, people want titles BECAUSE they are exclusive and can rub the other side's nose in it. And that is petty and spiteful.

They're on drugs. The reason there is no pissing contest is that the Blu-Bloods know they've won and the hd-duds are either in denial or too depressed to fight anymore.

I really want Forbidden Planet which should be a catch up title from Warner. The Bourne movies are a must, Riddick, U571 and Pitch Black, The Thing, Van Helsing to name a few. I'd be lying to say I'm not interested in any Uni titles. One day I'll have them and buying a cheap Dud player is something I'd die before doing.

The only movie that makes me wish I had HD DVD is Batman Begins. I can wait for everything else, especially considering Universal's selection of movies, aside from comedies, isn't really that spectacular, and they've got a reputation of putting out craptastic discs in the quality department. I know 9/10 poor quality DVD's I own are Universal.

Cool

Not jealous in the least. I'm happy with blu-ray, knowing eventually all titles will be available.
