WMC TV in Memphis is reporting the body of former Memphis Tiger great Lorenzen Wright has been located in woods in SE Memphis, he had been missing for over a week.

Uncle says Lorenzen Wright's body found in southeast Memphis

MEMPHIS, TN (WMC-TV) - The uncle of former NBA player Lorenzen Wright says police told the family the athlete who had been missing for 10 days has been found dead.

A body was found Wednesday afternoon in a wooded area near the intersection of Hacks Cross and Winchester in Memphis, authorities said.

Curtis Wright told The Associated Press that police called the player's father, Herb Wright, Wednesday afternoon, to say the body was that of Lorenzen. However, an MPD spokesperson would only confirm that police were investigating the death of a male.

Wright's mother reported the basketball star missing to Collierville police last Thursday, after no one in his family had seen him in four days.

The last family member to see Wright was his ex-wife, Sherra Wright, at her Collierville home on July 18. She said Lorenzen left while she was sleeping, came back and then left again.

The next afternoon, a barber at New Era Barbershop on Malco Crossing said he cut Wright's hair, and the basketball star was his normal, cheerful self. Wright told his barber he was going to Atlanta for a try out.

He hasn't been seen or heard from since.

In addition to his divorce, Wright also recently faced financial troubles. Records show the couple's 17-room home in Eads, Tennessee was foreclosed on in May last year after he and his wife defaulted on their $2.7 million loan.

The Wrights' $1.3 million home in Atlanta was foreclosed on this January.

Wright, a 13-season veteran in the NBA, most recently played for the Cleveland Cavaliers before he fractured his thumb last year.

What a swell guy leaving his family bankrupt. Another NBA player who blew his millions and left his family destitute. Sounds like he was most likely involved in criminal activity, probably drugs that got him killed.
