Default Crossbones

Unless I'm missing it I did not see a thread dedicated to the show Crossbones which premiers tonight on NBC. Don't know anything about it besides the few trailers NBC have run advertising it. Like Malkovich so I'm willing to give it a go.

Premiere of "Crossbones" Captures NBC's Highest 18-49 Rating in the Slot in Three Months

Why did they bury this in late prime on Friday? Mature content like Hannibal?

This wasn't originally intended to be a early summer series.

It was originally supposed to premiere after Dracula finished it's run. However, Hannibal took over that timeslot and they had no timeslots left and ran out of time to air it during the season. And I don't think the Friday at 10pm timeslot means anything. It was simply the only timeslot available right now after the TV season concluded.

Then when would Hannibal have been on? NBC always knew Hannibal would be back then, so what you said doesn't make sense

Of course they knew Hannibal was coming back, but networks always change their minds. Prior to the season, I read the plan was to air 10 weeks of Dracula and then 10 weeks of Crossbones in that timeslot. I'm guessing they saw Hannibal was a better fit with Grimm and launching a new show (Crossbones) wasn't the best idea during the season.

So, what you are saying is that Hannibal would have aired in the summer? Am I stupid or what? lol It was always going to be Grimm (22 episodes) and then Dracula first followed by Hannibal. So there was never going to be a spot for Crossbones besides the summer.,

No you're not stupid, but you're incorrect:

This was the early midseason 2014 schedule that NBC released in May 2013. As I just said, they can change their minds. Hannibal was always coming back midseason 2014, but not necessarily Fridays at 10pm. The below schedule obviously was only tentative, but this was the original plan. For all we know, Hannibal could have aired another day had they stayed with this plan. 9 times out of 10, networks never stick with their original midseason schedule.

Also, at the time that early schedule was released, Crossbones had not shot a pilot yet.

They began production in Puerto Rico in mid October 2013

Summer 2014 was the only option left after NBC gave Hannibal that timeslot instead.

Yes, I do remember it being listed there, but I think that was just NBC being stupid. Hannibal would have never been on another night again after originally moving from Thursday to Friday in season 1. Has any show ever moved from a Mon-Thurs slot into Fri and then back into the week? Maybe it is more common and I can't think of anything right now, but it just seems like NBC being strange. I couldn't imagine Hannibal airing against anything other than Grimm.

Hannibal's entire 1st season aired on Thursdays at 10pm. It never moved last season. One episode didn't air as you are probably aware.
