Default A real, working hoverboard

Guadagnin began the project in 2008 for an exhibition titled -- drum roll -- "Back to the Future." Electromagnets allow the board to levitate, while a laser system stabilizes it mid-hover. Although you can't actually ride the board, it does hold up remarkably well when poked and prodded. Check out the video below to see Guadagnin demonstrate:
I wonder when the tech will actually get to the point where we can actually ride these things.

That's awesome, lol.

I remember as a young kid, after having seen the Back to the Future movies, I told my mom all I wanted for Christmas was a hover board. I wasn't aware at the time that they really didn't exist yet, lol.

Pretty cool! As a kid I believed the urban legend that hover board technology was real (and that a few were actually produced) at the time BTTF2 was released but the federal government was keeping them locked up for fear of danger to children. Ha!

McFly, you bojo, you can't ride those things on water unless you got power!

I WANT IT!

That's awesome. Think of what we'll have in 15 years if we have this. I am already excited about riding a hoverboard.

He probably had magnets in the podium he was demostrating it on. He never demostrated it anywhere else but that podium.

Not saying it's not a real hoverboard though. I imagine if the hoverboards used in the movie were real, they'd probably work off some kind of reverse magnetic polarity with the Earth. So this is at least a step in the right direction.

BTW - That movie took place in 2015 so someone needs to get to this to mass market these things pronto. Plus they have to develop the "Pit Bull" hoverboard too. (...and release 15 "Jaws" sequels too!)

Yes, they used electomagnets on the hoverboard. Too bad the board currently can't support the weight of a person, because I want one NOW!
