A thread for those who want to discuss either TV shows currently available on Blu-ray, and/or what shows they want to see come out in the future. This is my wish list:
24 – The 7th season is out now and the 8th season up for pre-order, and with the show now ending and a movie being prepared, this should be a good time to get the previous seasons remastered and out in HD. Desperate Housewives – One of my favourite shows with plenty of bright colours about to ensure that it will shine on Blu-ray. That plus the fact that the show is already filmed, and broadcast, in HD, and the DVDs I get sometimes aren't of great quality, a few of the discs I have had make a dodgy “grinding” noise when they play. They play back fine but it doesn't make them sound safe in my player. House – It may be running a little thin now, but the earlier seasons are excellent and again I am not sure why it is not out on Blu-ray already, given its popularity and HD broadcast. Prison Break – Season 3 is out on Blu-ray over here, but where are the others? And why was Season 4 a DVD exclusive? I believe Season 1 is out in the US but is region locked, so “hopefully” they shouldn't take that long to come over here. Red Dwarf – Back to Earth was disappointing, but the original BBC series is still hilarious and I would really like to see it remastered in HD and released on Blu, but only if it is an HD restoration of the original episodes, and not the “Red Dwarf Remastered” editions that were released on VHS a few years ago and met with mixed responses from fans. Scrubs – Same as 24, Season 8 is broadcast in HD, will have a Blu-ray release, let's have the other seasons remastered. And given the show's long-lasting popularity it would surely sell well on Blu. The Sopranos – Did anyone buy the first season when it came out? Unless it wasn't a particularly big seller or had reports of disappointing transfers, then the later seasons are bound to be out at some point, yeah? The Simpsons, Futurama, Family Guy – These three are an obvious case of “Some of the later episodes and movies are already out now, the earlier ones can surely be eventually restored for HD”. Plus, if it ever happens, then maybe they can sort out the episode running order confusion on the UK Family Guy releases, save for the Star Wars parody episodes, which are packaged separately. The Smurfs – Ah, I'm probably the very minority here, but I added this one because it is simply my favourite cartoon. Has been since childhood, and I recently rewatched this for memories sake and got right back into it again. I have had to have the DVDs currently available imported from the US, or search for some old VHS videos of the show on eBay, so I'll be happy to just have the complete series released on DVD, especially in the UK. But if there is ever a chance that The Smurfs (and other Hanna-Barbera cartoons) will see the light of Blu-ray, then that will be an added bonus that I won't refuse. |

I second '24', 'Desperate Housewives' and 'The Simpsons'.
I would also love: 'Buffy the Vampire Slayer' and 'Angel', because they are two great series that don't look as good as they used to on DVD, so it would be awesome, if unlikely, to see a decent set. 'My Name is Earl', the US has a season 4 BD, but we have nothing! Same with 'Dexter' 'Weeds' 'Bones' 'Supernatural' 'Breaking Bad' and 'Burn Notice', all of which have at least been partly released on BD in the US. Also I'd love a complete Twilight Zone set, and the X Files. I'm also disappointed that the channel 4 shows 'Skins', 'Dead Set' and 'Misfits' aren't on BD, especially considering that they have had HD transfers. Great thread btw! |

Oh, and I would also love to see House and The Sopranos. I was thinking about buying series 1 but
a) It's expensive b) I'd rather wait for the whole series. When I get paid I'm hoping to get Heroes season 1 and Fringe season 1 because they're both at fairly reasonable prices finally! |

24!
OK, it's my favourite TV show by a distance, but this is the type of show that is crying out for a blu-ray transfer. Up to now I have fought off buying season 7 on blu, in hope that they will eventually release a complete 24 blu-ray collection. Seasons 1-8, Redemption, then eventually the movie. Though, without any news on previous seasons getting the blu treatment, I'll be waiting a few years for this by the looks of it. |

Just posted this in the NA wish list forum, but oh well. This list sort of descends into what your fave TV shows are, but anyway!
Some of these I'm not sure will ever be out on BD, or will require a lot of work. The pre-HD episodes of The Simpsons, for example, I doubt would look that much better than DVD - in the US season 20 is out and in the review the pre-HD eps apparently do not look that special. Furthermore, according to IMDb under 'technical specs' The Simpsons' 'printed film format' is 'video- NTSC'... which would surely mean it can never look better than an upconvert, because the source is not HD or physical film. Lots of shows made before the last 5 or 6 years were shot on film (which can be made HD, provided the film masters are still around) but edited on video. Shows like (I'm pretty sure) X-Files, Buffy, Farscape, Star Trek TNG/DS9, Voy were shot on film but all of the effects shots were done on video and either would be upconverted (which for some shows like Star Trek, is a LOT of footage which wouldn't be HD) OR the effects shot would need to be redone from scratch, in HD, and edited into the restored film portions. That is a time consuming and expensive process so I'm not holding my breath for lots of these. Some shows like Fawlty Towers and old Doctor Who were shot on video and again, could never be made HD due to the SD source. Shows I would love but I'm not holding my breath Buffy Angel ST: DS9 Farscape Shows that I would love and would be possible West Wing (some of the non anamorphic DVDs look awful when you have to zoom in to the image on a HDTV. Moreover it has quite a filmic, well-cinematographed aesthetic which would come across well) Deadwood (this would look great, my most wanted HBO show. In addition there aren't that many eps so it wouldn't be too cost-prohibitive) Twin Peaks (I heard there are HD ready masters out there, again its not a very long series, so you never know) Prime Suspect (the early ones really could do with an upgrade) Angels in America (come on HBO, it's just a miniseries, not that much work!) Shows I would quite like as well The Wire (the creator doesn't seem to care much about making this HD, and I'm alright with the DVDs for now) The Sopranos (I saw the first few series years ago, I really wanna get the whole lot but want them all to come out... if they don't hurry up I'll end up getting the DVDs!) Six Feet Under Ally McBeal Farscape Veronica Mars Friends (DVDs are looking pretty rough, would sell quite well) Sex and the City (as above, plus would sell well) X-Files (would require a LOT of work, not holding my breath.) The Office UK (no idea how this was filmed) How I Met Your Mother (season 4 is out in the US, want the rest of it!) Ultimately, My love for TV boxsets is one of the reasons why I'll still be buying DVDs in the years to come, and many of the DVD boxsets for things like X Files and Star Trek DS9 are and will be for a long time, the 'definitive' versions. No love for Seinfeld here?...it's the best TV show ever! OK there probably isn't a HD master out there, and it was filmed in a 4:3 ratio but who cares...it's Seinfeld!

Never actually watched it, but your words "Best TV show ever" reminded me to add another to my wish list... Spaced! Nowhere close to getting a Blu-ray or even HD transfer, and nothing coming up to even suggest that it should get one next to a similar release, but it is still one on my list. Every episode is comedy gold.
