My last grill cost me $600, sold knowing it was convertible from propane to Natural Gas, and with Porcelain covered cast iron grates. Two years later the Porcelain popped off and the cast iron rusted. A year later I went and got a NG line installed to the deck and the grill MFG closed up shop in my area.
Now the MFG re-opened a shop in my area, but a) conversion kit no longer offered (it was a $15 replacement brass nipple set with larger orifices), and the only replacement grates are Stainless Steel, which I like, but cost >$300. Thinking the economy would have wrangled the prices on new Natural-Gas capable grills with stainless steel grates, bot was I wrong. Think $800-1000 starting price. Glad that this has become a luxury. Maybe we need some federal grill reform effort. ![]() I went from grilling 4-5 times per week to not grilling. I may be dying because of my lack of grilling. ![]() |
