I don't own that particular model, but I own a 52" Sony that uses the same Bravia 2 engine. Once calibrated, it's got a great picture. In my case, I've found that the Sony TV truly shines during the day (well-lit room) but suffers a tad at night during dark-room viewing. This is not entirely Sony's fault, as it tends to be the case with most (if not all) LCD TVs. As such, you might want to consider a plasma instead if you plan on doing a lot of dark-room viewing. Otherwise, I love the picture on my TV.

Additionally, this particular set seems a little pricey. This is likely the result of it being a brick & mortar store (I've been spending a lot of time lately searching ID companies). I don't know how you feel about trying to find this set cheaper on the 'net, or if buying from a store gives you peace of mind.

Best thing I can recommend is to go into the store and see it with your own eyes. Take this with a grain of salt, because I can promise you that the image they will have on display will not be representative of what you can achieve in your own home.

I own a 46in xbr2 and in about two weeks will be purchasing the 52in nx800...there are a lot of good tv's out there but my xbr2 has never given me any issues in the 3years and half that i have owned it. It gives me great picture and I want to stick with Sony. But as one of the members said that Tv the ex500 is kind off high priced because I am sure there are many places you get it for much cheaper than that.

I have a 32 inch 720p Sony LCD (uses Bravia Engine 2) and it's got a great picture, so I would imagine that this bad boy you're looking at would look even more stunning.

I own the 46V5100 that has the Bravia Engine 2 and the colors are stunning along with deep blacks. But the one your lookin at is going to be a whole lot better I am sure because its a newer model. The price is steep but its your money and your choice. I know if I had the money that big boy would be mine.

this is the same tv im gearing up to buy when i move into my new place in a couple months so i think its a great pic
if you got a little extra cash to spend id consider the ex 700....go into the store and compare the 2, if you cant see a difference then stick with the 500 but the bravia engine 3 in the 700 is definately nice

like the guys above me said if your comfortable going about the purchase online id consider that

From what I have read...the Sony (500 and 700) use the Samsung S panel which is VERY susceptible to flashlighting for edge lit LED TV's. I have the 500 and would not get the 700. On the flipside, the S panel gives incredible blacks for non-LED TV's.

Default Sony= Best quality

Like someone saying before, the night time viewing is a tad off cause of the spotlights in the corners, but like he also said its like that with ALL lcd tvs. But trust me one thing my dad said to me is Sony HAS the best quality. I admit Sony may not make the best tvs, but pretty darn close. But they can always fall back on quality. Owner of a 52"XBR9 and im very very satisfied with my purchase. Their tvs are expensive because they last a lot longer than most tvs. Thats my two cents.

I'm still running with a 46xbr2 and have been more than happy with its performance. It's been a very reliable set for the past few years. But this summer I have plans to upgrade to a new TV and have been following the different releases for the year. Think I'll stick with Sony even though they can be a bit pricey. Been thinking about the HX900...

I saw my future Sony HDTV. I stopped by Sears today and saw the new Sony EX700 and all I can say is wow! I love the slim design and the PQ was stunning to say the least. I had a chance to flip through the tv's features and again I was impressed. What really blew me away was the sound coming from the tv's built in speakers. I didnt expect them to be be good but I was shocked, they are very good. I played a music sample (one of the tv's features) and the sound was crisp and clear and when I set it to 50 VERY LOUD!!! No they aint as good as a surround sound system but I think they would be good enough for someone who just wants to use the set's speakers for casual listening. The 46EX700 impressed me very much, so much so that if and when I get a new HDTV this will be the one. Sears is asking $1800 which isnt bad and I just might be putting this on layaway. Come the end of May thats just what I might do. I love my current Sony HDTV but the 46EX700 really impressed me.

Wink sony Lcd

I have a sony 40xbr1 and a sony 46z4100. I have had no problems with either one and am satisfied with both. I have had the xbr1 for over 4 1/2 years and it still looks great. My next set will also be a Sony.

You are just paying more for the SIZE, on this one. You would be much more happy with the Bravia 3 engine. This one has the 2 engine. We have the 500 series at work, and while it looks great, the 700 series looks WAAAAY better! Check that one out before you buy. Here is the Bravia 3 engine.......https://www.blu-ray.com/community/ga...ember=mr.hidef ...Just my 2 cents.........
