Default A couple Headphone quetions...

#1. Can anyone tell me how to hook up my headphone amp to my Onkyo TX-NR5007 receiver? Besides using the receiver's phono jack.

I tried using the Tape out to the "In" of the headphone amp but I get no sound. Also tried hooking it up to the receiver's pre-outs but also get no sound.

#2. Also another question. I have AKG 701 headphones w/ Heed Canamp but I am thouroughly unimpressed with the bass. I love the seperation and detail but the no bass just kills it for me. I also have thoroughly broke them in around 800 hours. Would somehing like the Sennheiser HD650 or HD600 work well with the Heed Canamp? I've heard mixed things about Sennheiser's synergy w/ the Heed. I listen to mostly metal and I watch Blu-rays and game a lot.

1) haven't used the amp, so i'm unsure. Any rca out should be fine though.
2) I wouldn't go with the hd600, I would go for the beyrdynamic dt880 600 ohm headphone.

Those cans look good; can you elaborate a bit more on them though? I want to swing away from the overly bright phones and get something a bit warmer and not harsh. How do the beyerdynamic dt880 600 ohm phones stack up in this regard? Is the bass impressive?

The beyerdynamic dt880 600ohm is a very neatral headphone. In fact at it's given price point it is by far the most neautral headphone you will come find. It's bass isn't heavy or overly aggressive, rather it more or less just lets you listen to whatever your listenig to as it is meant to sound. Hence if your listening to an aggressive track like Terminator salvation, the bass will be aggressive, etc. May I suggest looking at getting some bass shakers. For both speaker and headphone use they are fantastic to use.

Well I went ahead and bought the Beyerdynamic dt880 600ohm after reading your suggestion and doing some research on it. Seems like a lot of people think it's great. My heed canamp can is rated 32-600ohm so I don't think I'll have any problems driving it properly. I read that about 150 hours of break-in is recommended to clean up the bass a bit.

I get it in tomorrow from Amazon. I guess if I don't like it I can just return it.

I don't think you'll be sending them back.

Listened to the Beyer's today. Bass was kind of muddy as I expected pre burn-in. I liked the soundstage and separation of the music and bass. I think these cans have alot of potential to grow after the recommended 150hr period.

Thanks. Ya I used some of their burn-in tracks a while back to do a 700 hour break-in on my AKG 701s. Good website.

Just leave your headphones on for 24 hours running the frequency sweeps and your headphones will be burnt in.
