Default Box Office Weekend 5/14 -5/17 (Thor & Fast Five Redux)

The upcoming weekend will see the continued box office dominance of Thor and Fast Five. Priest (3D) and Bridesmaids will debut on the upcoming weekend offering a weak challenge to the top two box offfice films of last weekend. Bridesmaids offers what appears to be an effective counter programming and will probably finish #3 for the weekend. Priest in 3D makes its debut, and makes me wonder if I have seen Paul Bettany in a similar role? Give Bettany wings or make him a priest, but I doubt this movie will have a weekend debut higher than $20 million.

Thor is going to carry over, with Fast Five and Bridesmaids in number 2 and 3 (not sure which way) and Priest launching straight into number 4.

Thor will definitely win the weekend, but I see Bridesmaids coming in second. It's got a lot of great buzz and date movie potential so I see it doing very well in the $23 million range and it wouldn't shock me if it came closer to $30 million. It just seems like a sleeper hit to me. I see Fast Five dropping big again and getting around $15 million for the weekend. I see Priest flopping. I bet most theaters would rather keep showing Thor on it's 3D screens so it's total will suffer. I wouldn't be shocked if Priest doesn't break $12 million for the weekend.

Thor will definitely take it again. Fast Five will continue its decline, and probably lose some theaters this week compared to Thor probably staying roughly at the same theater count (plus that 3D and IMAX 3D bonus).

What I am waiting to see is how Thor will fair once Pirates strips it of most of its 3D screens. Is Pirates 4 going to be in IMAX?

Yes - MOST/ALL commercials I've seen are saying "IMAX 3D", & it's already posted for my area IMAX for 5/20.

Going to see "THOR" tomorrow
[Show spoiler](vice having to wait a week til' Next Weds.)
- Unfortunately, it'll be in "Real-D 3D" , but whatever. I don't control the 2D or 3D viewing decisions.

I'm 99% sure THOR will take it again, with some Mid-High $30M numbers. As for 2-4, good question.

Thor will win with roughly 28-30 mil weekend. Bridesmaids and Priest have been tracking below 20 mil weekend. Fast Five should decline at least 50% from weekend #2.

I've a feeling Thor will do well again this weekend, especially since Sunday isn't Mother's Day.

I'm excited about Bridesmaids. As a huge Apatow and Wiig fan, I'm hoping it does great. So many good choices for moviegoers this week. NOT Priest. I hope it flops, and doesn't even meet its budget. You guys see that terrible wirework in the trailers?

It'll be losing most of its 3D (and IMAX) boost soon to Pirates, so it could go different ways. More people seeing it now that they'll likely have a 2D option and didn't want to pay for 3D...or the much more likely that its numbers will just continue to fall.

It could inch over $200M domestic, but I'll be shocked if it goes any farther than that. This one's bread and butter will be foreign totals.

____

Edit: In other news, Fast Five will pass The Fast and the Furious for domestic tops in the series and Fast & Furious for foreign tops in the series this weekend.

It has a ways to go left to top The Fast and the Furious for actual attendance though.

Thor will end up with a second week drop of roughly the same as Fast Five...which is quite sad for Thor as it didn't lose a large number of screens (especially IMAX) or have any direct competition like Fast Five did second week.

Pirates is going to slaughter it.

I agree, POTC 4 will be huge. Thor will be hard pressed to finish with $200 million domestic, which will be ok. The foreign run for Thor does appear promising.
