Maybe one of the main hubs went down.

I don't know, but I'm with Verizon, and service has been horrible over the past 24 hours or so. I have a 1.5 Mbps connection and I've been getting download speeds just around 256K territory.

I called tech support and the CSR said that there's an outage in my area, whatever that means. He said that you either have no service or very slow service. But that they're working on the problem.

I'm betting that there is a main hub down somewhere.

Downloading porn uses bandwidth that could be used for browsing websites.

any internet problems are purely ISP based unless you see a news flash stating anything other wise

When I first read the title of this thread, I was expecting some kind of far-out, conspiracy theory sort of post inside it. I am severely disappointed!

Well, in the context of this topic, it seemed somewhat appropriate, just as much so as the Russian spy comment. In case you haven't heard about it, Obama wants the power to shut down the Internet in case of massive "national security" cyber attacks, which don't you agree that that idea fits to certain degree to this discussion?

2002? Must've been a screamer...

I bought my first in 1991. A screamin' 33 MHz Intel 386DX w/4MB of RAM and a 1MB video card. That was top of the line then. But then in '92, the 486s came out. Then in '93 or '94, the first Pentium 60s came out. I got one of the first as it still had the floating point error in the processor. (there was a calculation you could do using the computer's calculator that if it came out to anything but 0, it had the error. Mine did.) I think that computer had 16 MB. But I knew I doubled it to 32 MB so that I could play Diablo II.

Website access was incredibly slow earlier this morning (~3:00-4:00am), though my SSL connection for downloads was just fine (I'm on Road Runner).
