Been watching this on the Tubi streaming channel (free with ads).
It is obviously subtitled, but it's really easy to follow what is going on. If you aren't aware, this show was being shopped around as the first "Power Rangers" series, before they settled on Kyōryū Sentai Zyuranger for that. Basic premise is a group of aliens from another dimension come to take over Earth. A group of young adults (over 21 I assume since they go to bars often) get special powers. There are a lot of everyday items/objects that get turned into monsters via bugs (which of course make them grow into giant monsters as well). The interesting thing about the bad guys (the Vyram) is they are competing to rule over Earth, and whomever beats Jetman is gonna be the leader. This show is also an homage to the anime Science Ninja Team Gatchaman. Which has gotten adapted into 3 different shows (Battle of the Planets, G Force Guardians of Space, and Eagle Riders). Another interesting aspect is the use of tobacco products, drinking alcohol, and lots of romance sub-plots (including a love rectangle between 3 guys & 1 girl on Jetman). I'm up to episode 36 or so (of 50+ episodes), and it's pretty good. Anybody else have thoughts? |
