Wandering Earth 1 also played in US IMAX theaters and it’s a dead period for big releases, so not surprised.

Yeah, I saw the first one in IMAX. The movie was cool but the subtitles were problematic.

I watched the first one on Netflix. I'll see the second in theater if it plays near me.

Many theaters (including AMC, Regal & Cinemark) are getting the movie this Sunday, to coincide with Lunar New Year.

In many theaters, it will get IMAX or XD showings.

Well there are some LIEmax showings near me. Usually I would go for Dolby but that's not possible in this case.

I wasn't aware that this was a prequel to the first one, so at first I thought it was a reboot with the lead actor playing a different character. It was an epic movie, even if the propaganda was on-the-nose. There was some surprising emotional depth and Andy Lau's character was fascinating. There were two things that were rather annoying: the numerous cuts to security cameras during scenes and the countdowns to certain events happening. Seriously, I didn't understand the point of counting down when an event is 14 hours away. It's not like it was happening in real time. The action was great. I was curious if

[Show spoiler]the little girl the main character gives the bag of fruit to ended up being the adopted daughter in the first movie.

The ending tied in nicely with the beginning of the first movie.

The streaming version does include IMAX aspect ratio switching scenes. Let's see what the disc will do.
