I wonder how many people still use 4:3 TVs these days. Do they even still make one?

We still have one in the bedroom. Never use it though. Every once in a while in the morning before work I'll pop it on but more or less it just sits and collects dust. However... At my parents house I have a 40 inch 4:3 in storage. The reason for keeping this will be because when I move out of my condo and into an actual house I plan on hooking my VHS player up to it since we all know how poor they look on a HDTV. As far as I'm concerned a standard TV will always be part of my life. If for nothing else then to watch all the great films & TV shows never released on anything but VHS.

I own 2, actually. A 27" Magnavox TV in my bedroom which still works great (I've owned it since new in 1997). The other is a small 13" TV I've had since 1988 (yes, you read that right - 1988

I've got a huge 32" Sony in the bedroom. The picture is beautiful, but it weighs about as much as my car and I would love to replace it with a 40 inch LCD at some point. In the living room I have a 50" Sony HD that is magnificent.

![]() In the UK now, shops who sell electrical items must take them back at end of usage and dispose of them. Much better than a parking lot. Last one I had was around 10 years ago. |

Haven't had a 4:3 TV since I got divorced 3 years ago - The ex took the 32 inch Sony tube TV with her (at my request!), so I could get myself a 52" Aquos for the living room of my new bachelor pad... then of course I have my 120" 16:9 projector screen in the Basement HT.
What really irritates me is that there's still way too many broadcast and cable channels in 4:3 - I think it is definitely time to give those "black bars" to all the slackers who still own their outdated 4:3 screens, and let all of us "with-the-times" crowd actually enjoy our 16:9 screens...lol! Plus, it would most likely help nudge them towards buying updated TVs a bit sooner, as well! ![]() Last edited by FREYMAX 3D; 08-06-2010 at 05:06 PM. |

Well, we just upgraded our bedroom set to a panny LCD, so we're down to 1 left. Down in the basement and now that the treadmill is busted it's never used. Honestly though, if we're just watching TV to have something on, or watching old sit coms and such, the older sets are OK.

My parents simply refuse to seperate with their tube tv's as well as my cousin and sister. My dad always comes in and watches my 46inch flat screen when Nascar is on but for some odd reason he refuses to give in even when I have offered to by him a 32inch flat screen for his room! My cousin said a tv is a tv and says we are all "crazy" but I bet if I bought him a flat screen he would change his mind. Some people refuse to let go I guess but as I have told my family when their tube tv's die they will either be forced to buy a flat screen or go to the pawn shop and by a used tube tv because thats the only way they can keep the tube tv era alive.
