Default Pulled the trigger

on a 120 GB ps3 today from Wal Mart. Then went to Game Stop and bought a used Call of Duty 4 Modern Warfare game. I've always been a fan of first person shooters. Blu ray played great and sounded great, but the game wouldn't work no matter what I did. It had some swirls on it, like someone had used a Disc Doctor on it. I took it back and they exchanged it for me. All is fine now.

This game is taking some getting used to. I have to go through the training, before it allows me to go into a battle. Once I get the feel of the controller, and see how the game itself goes, I should be ok. May take a little while though. Have never used this type of controller before.
Should be a fun process.........

congrats on your purchase. when buying used games at gamestop, i always check the discs before i pay. if they look like what you described i pass, always. i go as far as asking to see other copies and pick the best one. i never get any grief either.

If our a fan of FPS and want to play the best the ps3 has to offer, buy Killzone 2. Watch this and say you don't want to (you wont be able to )

Also Far Cry 2 is worthwhile playing, and has some of the best gameplay and graphics available today:

And two coming soon that look quite good.
Killzone 3:

Far Cry 2 and Medal of Honor look really good.
Some of the KillZone 2 looked good too, although I didn't care for the looks of the first KillZone 2 trailer. I tend to like the military and swat type stuff better than the sci-fi stuff.

Killzone 2 is worth checking out. I do not think it is a great game like some, but is a good FPS, and has some great moments in it. I would also recommend Far Cry 2, fun game even though it can get a little frustrating.

Killzone 2 actually doesn't feel very sci-fi at all, more like fighting Nazi's in the near future.

Personally I had big hopes for Far Cry 2 but just couldn't get into it. Great job on the tech side but the implementation of the actual levels just didn't pull me.. Annoying that the vegetation, etc doesn't really keep you hidden.

Congrats on the purchase. I recently bought a PS3 120GB slim as well. Very nice piece of machinery, and definite upgrade over the "fat" PS3

FYI, they have demo's on the PSN. I'm pretty sure there is one for Killzone 2, granted it isn't the best of the game but gives you an idea of how it starts. Plus it has bots for offline play Online MP is great as well.

And of course you need to play Uncharted 1 and 2, download the demos!!

hey emox! congrats on the purchase!

which one did you get again, mw1 or 2? personally prefer the first one, and love the gameplay in that one, versus the new one. as much as i appreciate the increase in detail, i guess im pretty much old school.

as mentioned, killzone 2 is a great game as well, but i kinda felt a bit more er... 'sluggy' with it. which actually can be a deterrent as well as a 'true feel' to it, imagining someone with such gear 'sprinting' away to some place. accuracy also is a bit more to get used to, but after the learning curve an excellent choice.

like westerns? try call of juarez, for what its worth, its a great game, aside from quick draws which at times can be frustrating.

another great game, albeit 3rd person shooter, would be Red dead redemption.

Most games are often found online as well, as noted. you can download the demos (including modern warfare 2), and use em without a time constraint.

Suntory,

Hows farcry2 by the way? details if you please. I was thinking about it, but wasnt quite sure.

I need a cheap fix prior to octoberfest.

For these demos, doesn't the ps3 need to be connected to the web?
Mine isn't, and probably won't be for awhile. I'll need a router and a very long cat5 wire, to get internet to the ps3. I'm in a basement apt., and hard to get anything wireless to work.
