Default Special Features

Am I alone in thinking that watching the special features could actually ruin a movie? For example I just watched the movie North Face. I loved the movie, the climbing scenes made me feel like I was climbing the North Face of Eiger with the climbers. Wanting more I then watched the "making of" special and saw all the scenes but this time on a stage with a big blue / green screen behind them. While inside I accept this as fact (the special effects process) in most movies today but by seeing it it actually took a little away from the experience for me. Anyways just wondering what most of you thought about special features and what it brings to a movie, good or bad.

depends on the movie and how much I like it like T2, Top Gun, James Bond or the Matrix I think its worth it other movies like comedies or dramas i usually skip.

oh and The Godfather has a really good poece on how they restored the look of the film to get it as pristine as possible sounds boring but its actually pretty good IMO

If I watch any of them at all it is the outtakes, don't really care about the rest.

Yeah I try to avoid them most of the time, especially movies with a lot of special effects. They ruin the mystique for me and take me out of the experience of the movie the next time I watch it.

Ditto! When I watched the special features on the Star Wars (DVDs), I was very dismayed to find out that most of the outer space scenes with giant spaceships being blown up were infact nothing more than a bunch of special effects made up to fool the audience. What a rip! Turns out the six films were solely made for entertainment value only. (and some extra cash)

I believe you are in the minority. I love watching special features as I love finding out about how movies are made. I'm re-watching LOTR trilogy right now (DVD) and it amazes me how they created Gollum with Andy Serkis and CGI combined and how the awesome sets were built (such as Theoden's Golden Hall)

Does the absolute complete opposite for me. Adds much more to the film to see how it was all done. Can't get enough of them!
