Default Suggest a Subwoofer....

It's time to upgrade my sub and I need suggestions.

Here is the criteria:

-$600 and under.

-Preferably 12 inch woofer, but no smaller than 10, if it really kicks.

-Quality construction and attractive looks. View my gallery if aesthetics should be a factor.

-FYI, I am currently running a Harman Kardon AVR with Polk surounds.

Make your suggestions and explain why you think this would be the best sub.

Thanks!

Sorry, but what I think would be fantastic with your setup is $699.

SVS Cylinder PC-12

This is one of the new Sledge amps attached to the already popular sub. Provided a link to look over the sub and amp.

Get a wood veneer sub to match your furniture. I think a walnut or rosenut finish sub would look nice in that room. SVS and Hsu Research have quality subs with nice veneers.

I'd go with THIS Epik Legend sub for the introductory price of $499 + shipping. Its a sealed design featuring dual 12" drivers with response down to 16hz. Look at Epik's track record. Their subs are at the top of the Craigsub list. Its an unbeatable value.

With a few exceptions, most people will recommend their own subwoofers. To save some time, let me list The Usual Suspects. They are all internet-direct manufacturers and their subwoofers are excellent:

Elemental Designs:

Epik:

Hsu Research:

SVS:

Now, for something different. If you are looking for an attractive subwoofer that performs well and comes in dark cherry and black, Home Tehater Direct (HTD) offers very good customer support. One reason I like their subwoofers is that they are passive with a quality external amplifier. You may not be aware that many people have had problems with plate amplifiers. Another advantage of a separate amplifier is that you can place it with the rest of your equipment and plug it into the same power conditioners. The connection between the amplifier and the subwoofer is with cheap speaker wires and you can place your subwoofer anywhere in the room for optimum bass performance. You won't have to walk to where the subwoofer is and turn it on and off.

Home Teater Direct (HTD) Level Three Subwoofer, $429:
http://www.htd.com/cabinet-speakers/powered-subwoofers

Specifications:
Power: 170 watts RMS, 290 watts peak
Frequency Response: 22 Hz - 150 Hz
Voice Coil: 3"
Shielded Magnet: 9 OZ neodymium
Sensitivity: 90 dB
Dimensions (HxWxD): 20 1/2" x 15 3/4" x 17 3/4"
Weight (per piece): 52 lbs
Key Functions: Power (on/off, auto-on/auto-off)
Phase switch: Variable Level Control, circuit protection
Dedicated LFE Input

Another great option is the subwoofers from Cadence. They make 12" and 15" subwoofers and shipping is for free. They are very good deals at such low prices. I am a firm believer of multiple subwoofers and you can buy two 12" subwoofers for $600. You can find many reviews of Cadence subwoofers on the AVS Forum.

CSX-12 12" Home Theater Subwoofer, $299:

CSX-15 15" Home Theater Subwoofer, $399:

If you want to take a chance, you can have four 12" Acoustic Audio HD-SUB12 subwoofers for $600. They come in three colors of black, cherry, and maple. Four subwoofers, placed strategically in the room, perform better than two subwoofers and two perform better than one. The normal price from The Deep Discount is $199. However, you can buy them as low as $150 each if you make an offer on their Ebay store or call them and ask them for a deal on four subwoofers. They are very flexible as far as making deals. The shipping is free.

If you decide to buy AA subwoofers, make sure you ask them to test the subwoofers before they send them to you.
