Default New Punisher release?

In Best Buy yesterday and picked up a copy of Punisher (Tom Jane) because I saw new packaging. It has a '3D' slipcover with 2 discs in it (one just dvd). Now, I have it on regular DVD as well as the extended cut on DVD and I did not get the Blu-Ray because I heard from too many sources that it didn't look much better than the DVD - which was no great shakes. Anyway, popped this new release in and it looks rich... very nice! So, has anyone else picked it up and compared to the former BD release? Is it the same transfer?, because this one looks pretty darn good! DTS-HD on this one.

No camera here BUT... the clamshell has the punisher skull on the front and the two discs inside have different pictures on them than what I saw in older pics. The slipcover has one of those 'hologram' or 3D effects (you turn it slightly and it changes pic) Never saw this advertised or anything. It has the Alliance (Canadian) logo on the back. Just an accidental discovery yesterday!

yeah the alliance one seems to have a lenticular sleeve.
so now i'll even believe it, although you "don't have a camera"

Well I HAVE a camera but it's at work. I just looked on Amazon.ca and .com and they don't have it on either. Weird. I'll see if I can remember the damn camera and post a pic in the next day or two.

PQ is a lot better than the DVD so better than I expected from all the reports I read and heard.

Is this release the extended cut or just the theatrical cut?

It's not the extended. I love that version and have it BUT... it's great to see the theatrical on the 58" with BD.

Same. The extended cut really rounds out the movie. I like my current DVD in its very cool case.

This thread got me all excited for an ultimate edition or something.

I'm GLAD that there isn't a new release haha. Got worried for a second there.
Just imported the UK version of The Punisher and it definitely is superior to the US release both PQ and AQ wise.
Got it for $10 shipped.

^ Agreed. The North American release by Lion's Gate is absolute trash (awful mpeg2 encode, lossy audio, runs out of chapters with 40 minutes to go in the movie). Thankfully the UK release is respectable in both the PQ and AQ department.

I have this set, the disc is literally the exact same as the US one, with horrible early Lionsgate menus & all. The DVD included at least has the extras it was missing, but still no extended cut.
