Default Speaker Tower Subwoofer setup/ sound bleed problem.

Okay-
So I've had this issue for awhile. No I'm not updating this room setup at this time. I have an older all in one setup running. Now the issue I'm having is the subwoofers are not independent from the R and L speaker- thus one main unit so I can't sit my sub in a corner. The issue I'm having is my subs bleed sound badly behind it. Like the subs sound way better in the room next to them THAN IN the actual room. I've had my neighbor complain thinking I had a drum set. So how can I get my sound to bounce or stay more in the room? Should I build bass traps or get sound proofing?

Need more info. What equipment are you using? What are the demensions of the room? What are you using the equipment for? Music or Movies? Both?

20x12' room with 7' ceiling, not exact but close it's a rectangle. Equipment is a Sony Tower system from the 90's. SA-VA15.
It came with two front towers Left and Right with built in subwoofers in each with to small Rear Left and Right. I'm running a center out as well.

*now that I see the manual and the way they are built (the Subs) I see why I'm having this issue.

Haha, small world, I had these speakers as well. I ended up giving them to my brother in law. As I recall they are pretty bassy. Can't remember if they had there own level adjustment.

Did you figure it out? Let me know if you still have any questions.

Ha, how about that. I didn't have time this weekend to play around with moving them. I have an idea or two I want to try. I'll let you know how it turns out.

Not sure if you have the remote but you should be able to adjust the tone controls but I think you best bet is to turn off the "super woofer". I believe there is a button on the tower itself. Should be three options; 1, 2 and off.
