United Kingdom Classic Film's - recommendations needed.

As title state's I'm after some recommendation from anyone Classic Film lovers on here. Basically, I'm wanting to dabble into the Classis movies that are on Blu ray.

I've only seen stuff like Psycho, Great Escape, Wizard of Oz, Sound of Music, Blade Runner and some Hayley Mill's stuff etc.

I have looked some movies already....North by Northwest, Bullit, Great Expectation's, Bonnie & Clyde, Forbidden Planet and they all look very good (havn't seen them), but if there are others too, please let me know.

You already own quite a few, but I have a very limited collection that mostly consists Dineny films, so unless you like them then I can't really help, but I do own one or two others. The only issue is classic can be interpretated into either older films, such as The Great Escape, or highly regarded films that have left a significante impact on the film industry, such as Toy Story.

Out of my collection films I'd recommend:-
  1. Snow White and the Seven Dwarfs
  2. Pinocchio
  3. Fantasia
  4. Dumbo
  5. The Italian Job (1969)
  6. Flash Gordon
  7. Beauty and the Beast

The Chaplin films are great as are the films of the Masters of Cinema collection. Metropolis is out on Monday and I'd recommend picking that one up.

Definately pick up Yamis recommedation of Metropolis; and from the Masters of Cinema range Fritz Lang's M and Leo McCarey's Make Way For Tomorrow are absolute essential from the 1930s.

I recommend Its A Wonderful Life especially since its near Xmas. Also from Studio Canals collection (even if some of the transfers arent perfect) Le Cercle Rouge (one of the best heist films in my opinion), Graduate, Third Man and The Deer Hunter.

If you like your horror check out Arrows classic Argento and Romero double bills, Inferno and the upcoming Deep Red and Dawn and Day of the Dead.

Elsewhere you could look at:

1) Planet Of The Apes
2) One Flew Over The Cuckoos Nest
3) Wild Bunch
4) French Connection (double set with the very underrated sequel if possible)
5) Magnificent Seven
6) Seventh Seal (if you can find it as it seems to have gone oop)

And the list you put (North By Northwest ect) are all musts, either way you have a lot of quality cinema to look forward to viewing

If I was to choose one film .. I'll add "M" ..for its age its superb in both direction , performance and influences.. A film that really sends your head in different directions as your sympathys are really toyed with towards the end..

My first choice would have been the original "The Haunting" but we're still waiting for the Blu Ray.. Though the DVD is a pretty stunning transfer and can be had for next to nothing..
