Sorry if this topic has already been posted.
My question is, let's say you have a dvd/blu, and when you're watching tv some channel is showing that same movie. Do you end up watching it, even though you own the movie? I sometimes do it, for different reasons. The tv versions can be different. For example, I love watching Scarface on tv because it's funny to hear the edited dialouge. And when some movies are short on running time, they run longer cuts of the movie. One that comes to mind was Ace Ventura. It had a few scenes that weren't on the original cut. Also, sometimes if the movie is good enough I'll watch it anyway because I'm lazy and don't have to get up and put the disc in my player (like I did for the Hangover). Anyway, I was curious to see if anyone else did this. Thoughts? |

My wife will flip through, see a movie on that she likes, but knows that we own it on DVD/Blu-ray and she'll stop on the channel, say..... "Oh yeah.... the rule.... " and she'll change it.......
That's right.... it's a rule in our house that if it's on DVD/Blu-ray in our library, then it doesn't get watched OTA. |

Never do. Even I don't own it. It may inspire me to Netflix the title.
The exception could be an obscure movie that isn't on DVD/Blu and may never be. Quote:

I'm not likely to watch an edited movie with commercials, but if a movie I like is on HBO/Cinemax/Starz/Encore/Showtime I might watch it. I've literally probably seen The Dark Knight 50 times on HBO/Cinemax even though I own it on Blu-ray. In the last month I've seen The Hangover probably 6 times on TV. Sometimes it's just nice to watch around 30 minutes of a movie on TV rather than on Blu-ray.

Depends entirely on the movie and on the channel. If its a movie channel (no commercials and no editing) then I'll probably watch it if nothing else is on. If it's full of edited dialogue and commercial breaks, then no thanks. Especially when whole scenes are cut due to censorship.
Edit: Lol, aka what fatediesel said. |

I thought you were referring to regular TV or cable (standard Definition)? Even if it was presented in HD I would prefer to watch my bluray copy instead, just to avoid all commercials and take advantage of the special features.

All the time! I don't know why either. I guess I'm just too lazy to get up and pop in the movie. Plus, I still want to be able to scan other channels, knowing I have something to come back to if I can't find anything good on.
