Didn't see a thread on this yet, unless I missed it but:
"Amazon rolling out Netflix-like unlimited video streaming for Prime subscribers?" http://www.engadget.com/2011/01/29/a...-prime-subscr/ I don't see it in my account now. Already have Netflix but I also have Amazon Prime, so this would be a nice lil bonus. On the screenshot it says: Your Amazon Prime membership now includes unlimited, commercial-free, instant streaming of 5,000 movies and TV shows at no additional cost. I've never really checked that section out and looks like the on demand rentals are $3.99 each. So this looks like a good way to get a lot of new subscribers to sign up for Amazon Prime. And then they might even spend a little more at Amazon when that get that nice, fast shipping.

This would be the greatest news ever. I've emailed Amazon before about them starting up a streaming membership. They have basically EVERYTHING available for streaming but there was no way in hell I'd pay 1.99 (2.99HD) an episode for shows with more than 10 episodes. I would pay $150 a year for prime with unlimited streaming (assuming they add HD)

I watch most of my shows on Hulu with my laptop connected to the tv thru HDMI. I've watched a few things from Amazon on my blu ray when they were on sale for $.99 or $1.99 and i was pretty happy with the quality. I don't know why it is so much better than hulu when they are both 480p but it is. I don't buy enough to make prime worth it but I would sign up again if this turns out to be true. I've had Netflix on hold since I bought so many movies on Black Friday, been debating canceling it anyway. I hope we find out about this soon.

Doubt I'd use it much since I have Netflix and can stream that to my TV through my Xbox.
I don't have any easy way to hook up my laptop to my TV since it only has RGB out and I have an older RPTV that doesn't have any RGB inputs. I don't care enough to try one of those wireless converters etc., much less to buy an HPTC or a new TV. |

I'm starting to see it with some movies. I'm checking out blu rays under $10 and they now have:
Prime members: $0.00 (unlimited streaming, Join Amazon Prime) Rent: $2.99 Buy: $9.99 Watch instantly on your PC, Mac, compatible TV or device. Actually, it's live now. Here's the page - http://www.amazon.com/Video-On-Deman...&node=16261631 Last edited by The Blufather; 02-22-2011 at 12:11 PM. |

Although as expected the selection is limited to older films, it is still better than nothing.
Added value to Prime Customers. Don't think it will immediately impact Netflix, but maybe in time. |

yeah..... I won't be divorcing Netflix anytime soon.... but I'm gonna check this out..... very nice bonus!
Are the "available to stream" titles viewable in a menu of some sort directly from the player? (i.e. My sony stand-alone BD player? I have an "Amazon On Demand icon... but never clicked on it ![]() |

I already have Netflix and already have Prime for the shipping, so nice addition. Last Sep, I read Netflix had about 28,000 streaming, not sure the current count but probably over 30,000. Probably will still mainly use Netflix, unless Amazon works out some deals for exclusives or something. And it looks like Amazon really wants to take Netflix on, so that 5000 should jump by the end of the year before the holidays. I noticed Amazon Prime is also trending on Twitter, so word is getting out. Need to check my Samsung Blu ray player and see if they have an app for this already.

Unless you want to watch it on a computer, I believe that is the case. I imagine that the availability of this service on devices will increase greatly in the coming months.
