Canada Gangs of New York SteelBook™

Looks like hmv.ca has decided to get into the steelbook game.

Release date of 9/28/10 from Alliance - if it's anything like the other Alliance releases that I've bought from Canada, it will be a stripped down / inferior version to the US blu-ray.

http://www.hmv.ca/Products/Detail/590288.aspx

Nice, so No Country for Old Men will also be a steelbook, wonder if these will be Canada-wide(& not just HMV).

looks like No country is the same way

The big question will be whether they are bluray sized or not

5.1 Dolby Digital (English)
PCM 5.1 Uncompressed (English)

which means the old disc.

You guys are confusing the axwel music link provided with the HMV.ca SteelBook. The Axel music listing is the old version, while HMV.ca is listing "GANGS OF NEW YORK/ STEELBOOK : WDS: DTS: 18A on Blu ray". To me this indicates DTS-HDMA, i.e. the remastered version.

To be clear, the only time Alliance releases HDTV broadcast versions is when they go alone on a release; not the case here.

I’m really happy to see HMV.ca join in on the fun!

Will be interesting to see the price point these come out at as I have always found HMV.ca to be more expensive than FutureShop for movies

Cheers

Website says $24.99, pretty reasonable, I'm considering both, even though I will get my butt kicked at home I think I'd pass on No Country though if they don't change the cover... I'd also pass on the Gangs of New York if it is not the remastered.

never thought to check the web site.

I guess the next big question is whether it, they, will be G1 or G2 sized. Halo legends was G2 and Rush was G1

Alliance is releasing both US version of Gangs of New York (Re-Mastered) and No Country for Old Men (2-disc version) on the date.

So at least we know it's the re-master

HMV.ca doesn't ship at all anymore, not even within Canada. I see a reserve option, but never tried it.

I got their Pure membership some time ago and hardly get a chance to buy anything there. It doesn't help that two of them around my area closed within the last year.

Yep. They have no shipping option and their reserve option stinks. I tried it and they haven't even bother calling me. I just ended up walking in and picking up the items off the shelf.

Though it is listed at 24.99, the price in store might vary. They have the Scream Trilogy listed online as 32.99 but it is 24.99 in store.

I believe HMV and FS have this movie at the same price (24.99). I've generally found that HMV is less expensive than FS or BB on back catalog releases but more expensive on new release blus.

Agreed on the catalog vs. new release prices between the two shops, and HMV has a lot of goof 2 for deals as well

Cheers
