Loved The Machinist and Session 9 is one of my favorite movies, but I don't have a whole lot of faith in this one. It just looked bad from the trailer I saw.

I saw it on HDNET for the preview and was sadly let down by it I really enjoyed Machinist and Session 9 (wish that would come on blu ray, the surround sound would be sooo creepy), but I just did not care for the scrappy band of characters in 7th Street. There's some nice chills with the shadowy hands clawing for people imagery, but nothing is explained...not even hinted at really. It wasn't a long movie but it seemed to drag...just spending more time with people holding themselves in at a bar and kinda rambling at eachother.

Compared to the other films, you wouldn't even think it was the same director, because those 2 films were quite character based and more psychological torture etc. The story just falls flat in this one, the cinematography is pretty solid, but everything else in the plot is just a letdown. RENT FIRST!

I saw it earlier last week on HDNET, and it was not worth the time in any way.

I saw it on HDNet, too, and I completely agree with all your points.

Thanks for the post, although now I'm worried. I'm a Brad Anderson fan, really enjoy Next Stop Wonderland, Happy Accidents, Session 9 and Transsiberian. The Machinist is good too, but not my favorite of his work. I will still see this film in spite of some poor reviews though. Transsiberian wasn't well received but I actually really like it, in spite of some flaws.
I think all of Anderson's work have been character driven and move at a slower pace.

I saw it and was somewhat let down also. It's definitely not worthy of a purchase. However, definitely rent it. It was entertaining enough to merit one viewing.

The character moments of this film were its redeeming points. And, I love slower-paced movies - when the story makes sense, that is. The main problem with this one was its nonsensical supernatural aspect. It seems to be a trend in recent years, and I'm tired of it.

I agree, Session 9 is one of my favorite movies and I thought The Machinist was great too, but this one was a total let down.

Yeah Session 9 was one of the creepiest movies I've seen in some time. I loved it.

To those who saw it and posted in this thread, you were right: it stunk.
I think it's interesting that Anderson explored low light filming and similar tricks he used in Session 9. However, it is too much of a good trick to use throughout the entire film. I felt the casting and acting is really what brought the film down and caused the most damage to what may have been an intriguing film. Everyone was so flat, I just didn't care or buy into it.
