Hey guys just need some pro advice. i am upgrading some components in my HT, but budget is an issue, i have already upgraded my projector, now i was wondering if i should upgrade my old HK AVR310 receiver to a Denon AVR-689, or should i upgrade my velodyne VDR12 sub (had enough of the popping sound!) to an SVS 21-39 PC PLUS first??

![]() If it were me i would replace the sub first to solve the issue you have & eliminate the popping. then when you go to upgrade the receiver Just make sure the new one has Pre-outs ![]() |

ya the popping sound occurs only at high volumes - which sucks...i guess the amp bottoms out in the sub and cuts off...otherwise the sub is really good...but is the SVS 21-29 PC Plus a better sub than this one?!? |

![]() ![]() tests: the SVS sub is really good, in movies i give it 9/10 but for music i give it about 7/10. reason for that is, its too light...it has a lot of power, but it only weighs about 50lbs. so on the hard pounding notes it seems to be vibrating a lot on hardwood floor. i will need to put a piece of carpet under it i think. but once again my hats off to my polk 505. its just an amazing sub and for the price you can't go wrong with it. i have matched the 505 up with the svs. the polk is in the front right, and the svs back left. i might need to play around with the positioning a bit more, but this seems best to me based on my room. i will post new pics soon. I say replace the driver with a better one. Parts Express has great drivers for less then what you will get from SVS.
I have replaced the drivers of 2 of my subs with Dayton Aluminum Drivers That are so smooth & they sound great. Just an example of one of the 3 drivers I have bought ~ http://www.parts-express.com/pe/show...number=295-464 |

I believe the 20-39 PC+ driver can be replaced with the latest Plus 2.3 driver which costs $275, but check with SVS first. I had the 20-39 PC+ for 8+ years until I sold it to a friend of mine.

![]() I think the driver I showed you is a better built driver then you had & will match up to any plate amp. All 3 of my subs are running off my XPA-5 amplifier so what is driving what ever you choose to put there will be fine. If you see the post above from ManUTD you will be getting a better driver for much less ![]() |
