Default The Official "Oh Wow, Remember THAT TV Movie From Your Childhood?" Thread

For some reason I suddenly started thinking about all these made for TV flicks that I saw when I was younger, in the late 80's, early 90's. Stuff that isn't even on DVD, much less Bluray.

Stuff that seems cheesy as shit now, but back then I thought it was so damn cool. lol.

What are some that you remember from childhood that you liked, yet aren't available?

Some off the top of my head:

Vanishing Son (four made for TV movies, and then a show) starring Russell Wong (Joy Luck Club, Romeo Must Die).

The Brotherhood of The Rose. Based on a spy novel, starred David Morse, Connie Selleca, Robert Mitchum and others.

The Gifted One. Can't remember much about this, but according to IMDB:

A young boy can transfer his body energy into ESP and heal sick people. While the subject of scientists' studies, he runs away to try to find out about his past and why he is the way he is.

Starred John-Rhys Davies and Captain Harris himself, G.W. Bailey.

Man I wish I could get these again to watch.

Also one of the very first, if not first, Fox Movie of the Week, called "Dead Silence". A highly original story of three girls on spring break who hit a drifter, and then try to cover it up and go about their lives. Three guesses on whether things work out well for them?

THIS television achievement in excellence, starred the one and only Bryan Cranston, and Renee Estevez (Sister of Charlie/Emiio/Ramon).

Fuzz Bucket (1986)
Quote:
In a world where 12 year old Michael Gerber has no friends, he finds that sometimes, the best friendships come from within. Michael is an awkward young boy who is about to start junior high and has no real friends. His only companion is an imaginary friend he calls Fuzzbucket. In the first act of the film, both the viewer and every character except Michael is left to make the assumption that Fuzzbucket is an imaginary friend. When Michael cooks up a strange, green concoction for his friend to drink, Fuzzbucket turns visibile again. Astonished to see Fuzzbucket for the first time, young Michael becomes overjoyed. His newly visible friend exuberantly leaps around Michael's treehouse in celebration. The two friends share a heartfelt moment in his treehouse when Fuzzbucket traces their hands with crayons, a ceremony that makes them blood brothers. At Fuzzbucket's urgent request for "Toons! Toons!" Michael switches on his television and the two sit together watching classic cartoons, and they soon drift off to sleep. Hours later, Fuzzbucket wakens and insists on knowing the time. He urgently cries to Michael, "How many clocks? How many clocks!?" Fearing that if he doesn't make it back home in time he will turn invisible again, only this time it will be forever. Fuzzbucket leaps out of the treehouse and to escapes into the woods. Michael, afraid of losing his one and only friend, takes off after him.

Starring Chris Hebert as a young Michael Gerber and Phil Fondacaro as his invisible friend, Fuzzbucket. The films also stars Joe Regalbuto as Michael's dad, Wendy Phillips as his mother, Robyn Lively as his older sister, and the late John Vernon as the Principal.

This isn't a TV movie I don't think but it was always on TV when I saw it and one of the few movies I still remember clearly and think about every now and then.

Yeah man NPH and Thora Birch were the child leads. I used to watch both Fuzz Bucket and Purple People Eater all the time with my grandma when I was 3 or 4. I LOVED those movies. I tried watched PPE last summer and man was it horrible. I learned quickly to never watch your childhood favorites as an adult, because it can only disappoint and taint your fondest memories. Ever since Deliverance I've never looked at Ned Beatty the same way again.

Yeah I haven't seen it since I was about 5 or 6 and look for it every once in awhile but can never find it. May have to avoid it as I have found memories of watching it over and over it seems as it was one of my childhood favorites.

A VHS rip is up on just about every torrent site there is, HORRENDOUS quality, than again it's probably cause it was VHS which never looked good, except in the 80's.

Totally forgot about one of my favorite movies from my childhood and one that will probably never air again or get a DVD release. I still remember being shocked at the ending being only 5 or 6 at the time. Sorry for the blurry picture it was the best I could find.

I remember this movie, I watched it many times on Disney when I was 10 or 11 I believe!! Wasn't it based on the song "Last Kiss"? Which btw if you aren't really into 50's or 60's music, you should really listed to Pearl Jam's cover, it was incredible!

EDIT: I just found this movie, I am so DL'ing this b*tch!

The first thing I thought of is not really a movie, but one of the old NBC miniseries "Around the world in 80 Days" with Pierce Brosnin, Eric Idle, Julia Nickson, and Peter Ustinov, in 1989. I watched it several times on our VHS copy of the broadcast showing, I loved it!

I haven't watched it in a decade at least, I'm almost tempted to buy the DVD now...

Idle looks exactly like Hoffman with his Hook mustache there!

I don't know if this qualifies, but I remember watching Voyage of the Mimi in school. I can't recall if it was more of a mini-series than movie, but still . . .

It was just as amusing as I remembered, in that mid 90's Disney after school special sort of way. The budget was almost non existent, but Amy Jo was just so delicious that she completely made up for that. I'd forgotten Justin Whallin aka teenage Andy from Child's Play 3 was the star. I don't believe I've seen Justin in over a decade now, wonder what happened to him.

Cool I'll have to look this up again and watch it. Yeah one thing for sure is that Amy Jo will never disappoint.

Looked up Justin and the last role he had was in 2008 and I think his last few movies were indies or low budget films.
