Warner will be releasing the Captain Planet: The Complete Franchise Collection on Blu-ray on Earth Day, April 22nd! This includes the original Captain Planet and the Planeteers series (1990-1992), as well as The New Adventures of Captain Planet (1993-1996). The set was released on DVD last year, so it's great news that it's finally coming out on BD as well. It will be MOD-distributed, but will have pressed discs.

Man, the theme song for this and Denver the Last Dinosaur are burned into my memory. And I only saw a handful of episodes of each! 80s/early 90s buttrock songs were the best.

I wonder why they didn't put this and the DVD release out at the same time. The HD remaster has been available on digital (iTunes, etc) since October and WB's been posting clips from it on their YouTube channels for months now:

Hope this bodes well for more Cartoon Network shows getting MOD-distributed Blu-ray sets in the future. Adventure Time, Steven Universe, Regular Show, and Ben 10 have all recently gotten complete series DVD releases through WHV and they're HD-ready for Blu-ray too

It sure beats the ancient tapes but it looks hella DNR'd.

I also wish more 90s TV Warner animations would get HD remasters.

I wonder if Swat Kats or Road Rovers would ever get a HD restoration and BD by Warner Archive? They're not long series. I honestly have been waiting ages for a remaster of Animaniacs/Tiny Toons as well.

I'd take it on DVD at this point- one of my most wanted CN series on disc at this point. I'd love to be wrong, but I don't think HD masters exist for Billy and Mandy.

Probably not going to be locally sold in region B, but I believe most if not all Warner Blu-rays are region-free, so you should be able to import.

The new masters are noticeably better than those used in the Madman set. There were some direct comparisons posted back when the DVD version released: Madman set, new set.

There are MeTV Toons screenshots floating around that are indicative of how the new masters look in HD- MifuneFan shared some earlier in the thread.

Totally unexpected, but glad it's happening. Wish more and more backlog like this got Blu ray releases. And I sure wish major studios welcomed SD on BD too. Would save lot of space and compress better.

The theme song was really great with this one. I sing it from time to time to my family, who don't seem to have the same appreciation for it as I do

Anyway, I picked this print up a few years back, the colors really pop on it in person:

I remember having the Captain planet action figure, I believe it the chest portion used to light up. I recall there was a video game on the Super NES at one point maybe memory is still foggy. But this is awesome news overall. I'll definitely pick this up

Definitely not SD. From reading the DVD thread last year, the show was remastered/restored when it was shown on MeTV.

Here's one comparison I found on Twitter showing the MeTV remaster vs Shout's DVD set. It looks great.
