United Kingdom Twin Dragons - Deluxe Collectors Edition (88 Films)

Order: Twin Dragons Blu-ray - £25.00
Release date: 26th June, 2023

Quote:
On holidays in Hong Kong, Mrs Ma gives birth to identical twins. A criminal in the same hospital attempts to escape, taking one of the twins hostage. The child is lost during the confusion, and Mr and Mrs Ma return to New York with one child. Years later, John Ma is a famous conductor and pianist, unaware that his twin brother "Boomer" is a mechanic/race car driver/bodyguard in Hong Kong. When John travels to Hong Kong to give a concert, the twins get caught up in each other's business, about which they are anything but experts.

Then I hope for a new transfer. The old one has pretty heavy DNR.

If 88 is releasing it there's no way they would skimp out these days

That artwork.

At least do something with the downsideup lettering.

It's going to look really stupid on a shelf.

The upside down/downside up art/lettering is interesting to look at but I'm not sure I like it

Very excited for this and I love the box art design. Yeah it might look weird on the shelf, but who cares as long as you can still read it?

Hmm, true. Still looked better than previous releases at least, was semi-HD in the end

I'm sure I don't like it.

I can't wait to upgrade from my HK DVD but the upside down text is absolutely horrible, especially on the spine. I wouldn't have minded if the title was repeated each way up but having each word orientated differently - ugh.

Surely they should have done TWIN DRAGONS then mirrored it underneath.

Love the artwork, I've only got a pillarboxed and letterboxed DVD copy of this so it'll be good to finally upgrade it.

Not sure what you expected, that film had already been remastered in 2k according to Fortune Star and that seemed to be what was released by Mediumrare and 88Films. The film looked better than it ever had looked and clearly 88 saw no need to tinker with it. Curious what else you thought needed improving with it?

Twin Dragons would likely have been remastered as well, otherwise I don’t think 88 would touch it.

Great to see the 88 Films Chan train is still rolling along, hopefully there's more to come in the future.
Not a fan of the artwork personally but that won't affect my pre-order.

I expected them to go back to the original 2k raw scan and do a restoration without the DNR.

But STORY OF RICKY is still watchable even with the heavy grain reduction. The 2k version of TWIN DRAGONS looks much worse. Really soft and waxy. If 88 just re-uses the current master it will clearly be their worst title image qualiy wise since BATTLE CREEK BRAWL (and BATTLE CREEK gets a re-release this year with a new restoration because fans were really disappointed by its lackluster image quality).

Interesting. I never noticed any DNR on Riki-Oh, but I typically never notice it unless it's pushed to the extreme.

I also didn't know a remastered version of Twin Dragons was available anywhere yet. I assumed you were referring to an old blu-ray release of a dated master, as DNR was much more prevalent a decade ago. But yeah, if the new master has heavy DNR, that is pretty upsetting to hear. Hopefully 88 wouldn't release that as-is.
