Ha, I knew as soon as I pre-ordered the Australian edition we'd get it here!

Was going to wait for the Criterion edition but better to go for the domestic product! Nice looking package sweetened by the HMV code

They're both good for cleaning drains at least.

I don't usually go for animated movies but this one does look really good. Hopefully not too harrowing either, i did check out "does the dog die" to ensure that my emotions won't be too frayed after watching the movie!

It isn't harrowing - there is peril and there is grief, but it is not exploitatively depicted. It certainly is emotionally heightened and I'd be suspicious of someone that didn't get teary watching it, but it's realised in a way that leans on interpretation and prompting of the viewer's clarity of thought. I found it quite therapeutic and a positive, healing experience, both me as an adult man and my 8 year old daughter got a lot out of it psychologically as well as an entertainment experience (and it is highly entertaining and very funny in places). But I would factor this in to picking a good 'moment' to see it.

Essentially it's Wall-E minus all the human/spaceship stuff and with behaviourally-accurate animals, that's basically the idea. It's got that 'Pixar touch' feel to it that even Pixar themselves haven't had for about a decade.

Thanks for your thoughts. I've never seen Wall E, not a Pixar fan at all but this one does look a lot more appealing.

I'm sure you probably know, but there is no dialogue in the film, besides animal sounds and the original score. Little is told about the world itself either, and you have to glean details of what's happening as the film progresses. I found it to be incredibly immersive, mysterious, and moving. The animation style is also unlike anything I've seen before, and it looked amazing in theaters. I personally would not compare it to Wall-E or anything mainstream to be honest.

Yeah the style is interesting, kind of makes it almost look like a video game (i mean that in a good way). I don't really/ usually go near oscar bait/ winning movies but this might be an exception.

Yeah, I wanted to say it reminded me very much of a video game, but didn't want that to be off-putting. As you said, it's in a good way.

I just remembered I posted my brief impressions of the film in the Criterion (US) thread. I also touch on the video game aspect in it too.

The film has an immersive feel, almost like a video game, especially with the way the "camera" moves around a scene.

It really didn't take me long to fall in love with the assortment of animals in the film, especially the capybara who I think is my new spirit animal. I highly recommend checking it out if it's playing near you. I saw it at an AMC theater, which is a rare occurrence for a Janus film.
