Default Captain Newman, M.D. (1963) (Kino Lorber, 2021)

New release from Kino Lorber:

Anyone see the film? Reviews? Recommend? It's currently just $16 on Amazon ($14 at Kino Lorber), and contains an intriguing audio commentary track.

It's a fairly enjoyable dramedy set in the psych ward of a military base during WWII. Some good dramatic scenes involving some of the patients, particularly Bobby Darin, but due to the time period it was made, nothing gets too intense or gritty. Tony Curtis provides primary comic relief as an orderly and basically plays the same type of character he does in Operation Petticoat.

For anyone who enjoys early 60s studio product that has a little bit of drama along with a little bit of comedy, I would thoroughly recommend checking it out. For anyone who prefers 70s style cynicism, I would suggest waiting until you can pick it up really cheap if you are curious.
