United Kingdom planet axel - higher shipping prices?

I haven't ordered from Planet Axel for a while but today when ordering a disc (it might get loud) there was a 'shipping and handling' charge of £1.79 AND a 'Handling, routing (and customs*)' charge of £3.13 giving a shipping total of £4.92. I'm sure it wasn't that high when I've ordering from them previously, and as the disc lists at £12.29 it's well within the new £15 customs charge. Anyone else confused buy the new shipping charges?

Not confused no. It was like that when I ordered from them a few weeks back. With the lowering of the import tax limit to £15, £3.13 is a small amount to pay compared to our charges. I personally wouldnt complain

I have to agree with you, born2run. Shipping costs are higher now.

Their shipping prices increased a few months ago so I only order from them now when there are a few items I want as the $5 customs charge is per order.

Nuts to them. I was going to buy three discs from them a while ago but when I saw what the postage and handling came to I cancelled it PDQ. Movietyme, Amazon.com and bluraysforeveryone.com (for retailer exclusives) get my money. The Western world is in dire economic trouble, Britain is facing the worst economic circumstances since the 1800s, so no retailer is going to have much luck with higher charges wherever they are

What does buying American product from American sites do for the UK economy exactly?

Maybe if you stopped buying imports our economy wouldn't be be so stuffed

PlanetAxel have two things going for them which beat the 3 companies you mentioned though and that's early shipping and quick delivery.

They might cost a few quid more but to me having titles 2-3 weeks before release is worth the little extra, why wait until a week or 2 after release (if buying from Amazon or Bluraysforeveryone) to receive something that I could have already watched and sold for what I paid weeks earlier.

Axel easily have the best delivery times for any import service in my experience so an extra couple of quid is worth it in my book, Also the reward scheme soon mounts up, Had several free discs using their scheme.

Maybe if British companies offered products as good as American ones I'd buy them.

And I'm not too bothered how long they take, though Movietyme do ship early (Rocketeer went in the post last week) and they offer three day shipping for the rich and impatient. Bluraysforeveryone took a week with my last order and Amazon's expedited usually only takes a week or so.

Movietyme are still lagging behind then as my copy of The Rocketeer arrived last Tuesday lol

If you want something quick and before release then PlanetAxel is the best out there, if you don't mind waiting then go for whichever company has it the cheapest.

My experience with movietyme is always first class whereas I have had a lot of problems with planetaxel. With the titles that I've ordered movietyme work out cheaper especially has planetaxel charge for shipping then another fiver for customs handling. WTF. IMO movietyme is the best for importing. And there is always the fact that planetaxel don't always like sending the blus with slips but its amazing that they can get one to you if you complain. Planetaxel are just a load of hard work.

Lol

I was only joking man

I do the same thing, if they don't release it here it's their loss not mine.

As the disc is listed at £12.29 which is below the customs limit why charge duty on it? I am happy to pay the duty to avoid the dreaded Royal Mail 'handling fee' but if the disc shouldn't be charged in the first place then it's a bit annoying.

They ship from within Europe too, so there should be no customs fees at all.

There will be fee's to pay when items arrive from the US though so I guess this new charge is to help cover those operating costs.

Yes I don't like the new structure either.

I was going to order something from them a few weeks ago but when I seen the Handling, routing (and customs*)' charge i didn't order...

Going to get it elsewhere / wait and order multiple things

Then they should factor that into the actual price of the item, instead of stiffing you for added fees later.

They are not the first website to hide additional charges till the checkout page and wont be the last, not the best strategy I know but if it works for them and keeps up their great delivery speed then I am all for it.

If you want something cheap then avoid but if you want to order 4+ items and want them weeks before release and delivered within 3-7 days then they are definitely worth using.

takes average of just over a week for me, yet Blu-bastard can arrive within a few days.

I've only ordered a handful of blu's from each but so far axel's shipping is one of the down points to me.

BluBastard ship from inside the UK whereas PlanetAxel ship from overseas to the UK then its reposted from inside the UK so a few extra days are to be expected.
