Great news. I hope it's a stereo render and not a conversion like some recent DreamWorks releases.

Trailer looks great.

DreamWorks doesn't do stereo renders anymore. The Boss Baby: Family Business was the last one in 2021. They've partnered with SDFX Studios for their 3D pipeline now. Probably laid off their entire stereo staff after the Covid lockdown.

This trailer played in 2D in theaters today before Kung Fu Panda 4 3D. The only 3D trailer was for Inside Out 2 3D, which has medium layers of 3D. This seems interesting, about a robot exploring the wilderness.

Thanks.

Disappointing news. Kung Fu Panda 4's 3D was decent but a step down from natively rendered 3D from within the software for the film's shots. I guess it's much cheaper to render 1 film rather than 2 (at a different angle for the 2nd camera of a 3D software rig), and then just have SDFX (DNeg/Stereo D) convert it into medium layers at best it seems.

This looks fantastic from the trailer, right up my alley, no one-liner syndrome or fart jokes detected. I’m assuming there’ll be no 3-D Blu-ray though, which significantly dampens my enthusiasm.

Shot around 1:24 in the trailer looks like it is prime for some strong 3D, but I'm worried about the letterboxing + framing hurting the effect.

Jungle Book if Mowgli were a robot? Might have potential as a film, but probably only one I'd see for the 3D, so I'll join the club in crossing fingers for the 3D bluray.

Looks good, but I really was not expecting this to turn into another 3D duck movie.

I was for some reason based on the 1st trailer, not expecting any actual talking in this film. I thought it would be like a silent film, other than maybe animals making sounds.

The 2nd trailer would probably qualify as "trailer reveals the whole story arch from start to finish". Way too much information there IMO for the end conflict situation, though that did seem like it could be possible in the first trailer.

I have to wonder: was the movie reshot heavily between the first and second trailers? I also expected no dialogue and something more grounded, now we have stereotypical talking animals and, as you said, the usual plot for these things spelled out entirely by the trailer. I know it has been over a decade now, but we had a silent flick win an Oscar, and as I recall, Pocahontas became iconic with animal sidekicks who couldn't speak.

First trailer had promise, this also left me feeling like I've already seen the movie.

If I could propose a new plan to them, it would be to "Batgirl"/direct-to-streaming this and instead buy the rights to a classic kids' flick about a robot learning to be more than his programming--Short Circuit--and give it a stand out 3D conversion. Well, okay, that's just what I'd like to see. More seriously, the plan would be to reshoot this with the minimal dialogue and lack of anthropomorphized animals seen in the first trailer.

I guess that first trailer was like a teaser trailer, but I think this film could've worked without dialog as a fresh change of pace. Then again, the action movie Silent Night had the main hero not talking at all, and that movie didn't go over too well, directed by the famous John Woo. It was interesting with some decent action, but I can see why some didn't enjoy it.

The story arc does seem predictable, though I can see where they'll probably win audiences with the emotional aspect of raising a duckling and
[Show spoiler] watching it finally ready to fly off on its own, free of the robot mother, but using all it learned during their struggles.

Yeah, the whole idea of CGI animated films being converted really dampens my enthusiasm these days for these films, which have the most potential when they're strong, native 3D films. But even when rendered out for each eye/camera for 3D, sometimes we end up with way too consservative 3D that doesn't leave an impression for the 3D beyond "The 3D was okay at best".

Now if they convert this into strong 3D, like they do for some of the Marvel 3D films, that could be great.

But yeah, I'm on the fence at the moment now that the animals are all talking. Not what I was hoping for with this one, but maybe it'll be good. Things are definitely uncertain these days for theatrical movies. Dreamworks finds ways to spend less
[Show spoiler](compared to Pixar according to Pixar hiring higher paid animators/staff) so they're not taking as big of a risk if one of their CGI animated films doesn't make back its budget.

I still haven't seen The Bad Guys after hearing it's an average 3D conversion. Then I heard Garfield's 3D was not great and that's converted too. Not a good trend for 3D in theaters lately after the days of Avatar 2 3D. I was really hoping for a 3D home resurgence with new 3DTVs or blu ray 3Ds, but not to be. The economy in general is in rough shape too, so that doesn't help customers to buy new devices/equipment.

Apple Vision Pro, I'll avoid for nearly $4000, as I'm glad I have a 215 disc library of blu ray 3Ds. That's plenty to rewatch and enjoy over the decades ahead. Just a matter of keeping my 3D projector's bulb replaced as needed. So far going on my 4th year with it now, watching a blu ray 3D each weekend and 2D movies too, as not everything is available in 3D.

This movie looks great, I've been looking forward to this one for a while. I haven't watched the newest trailers though.

But... I will probably go see this in IMAX (maybe tomorrow night), the audio especially is great at my local theater. The sad thing is, their 3D is not great, otherwise I would go see this in 3D. Unfortunately, I know that I'm going to have a far better theater experience in IMAX than in 3D. I haven't gone to the theater for a while, I have points for a free movie anyway, and I did want to see this one.

I will just keep my fingers crossed for a 3D Blu-ray from Turbine

So I did go see this, and it was great! I definitely recommend the movie itself as a family movie, or if you like robots, or if you're a Dreamworks and/or animation fan, and I can only imagine that it would be awesome in 3D if they've done a good job on it. I'd love to have this on 3D Blu-ray to watch on my projector at home.

The 3D in this is beautiful, as is the overall animation in it - notably in the aspect of layering, the scenes of flying were very impressive

There's a certain quality to the animation that at times made it feel almost like it was HFR. Anyone else notice this? It was especially noticeable during fast-moving shots.

Thanks. Sounds good.

Did the scene with the butterflies or flock of birds pop out with the hundreds of them flying out of the screen a little? I don't envy the conversion team members who have to convert those complicated frame by frame shots. Same for rain. That is where natively rendered 3D has another huge advantage over having to convert a scene.
