Quick review:

first of all this disc is the same as the Australian and UK one. The screenshots posted in the Australian forum are looking exactly like the picture of the German BD. It looks much better in motion though. The picture is very very grainy and looks really good imo. I can only assume that this is how the movie looked when it was released theatrically back in '91. It's not overwhelming HD but it shows enough detail and depth for my taste. I am very happy with this release which is a huge improvement over the SD version.
I can also confirm the BD to be region AB (C not tested).

I agree. I watched my copy today and those screencaps that are posted on this site are NOT an accurate representation of how it looks in motion. One thing I gotta say is that the few truly dark scenes in the movie look horrible IMO. They look like the scene from Scarface when Tony tells Sosa that he's made a deal for 10 million dollars. But overall, Barton Fink looks better than Scarface. The movie looked way better than I feared after seeing those screencaps posted here, which look extremely compressed.

Region AB? Does that mean it works with both Region A and Region B bluray players?

I'm looking forward to Barton Fink being on blu. It's one of my favorite films of all time.

I'm pretty sure that it has to be completely region free since it has a million language tracks and subtitles. Once again, I have to praise this transfer. Out of my Universal Blu Rays (not that I have many, only 5), it has the second best picture quality after Do The Right Thing. Barton Fink looks great, has a healthy bit rate and the only parts of the movie where I don't like the picture that much are the truly dark parts, like the opening shot and when Barton tries to sleep after he arrives at the hotel. The grain is annoying to watch here, but only a tiny chunk of the movie is like this. Overall, it doesn't have the usual crappy Universal trademarks. It certainly doesn't have DNR and if it does have edge enhancement, it definitely isn't as much as Scarface. Highly recommended. We'll be hearing from this crazy Blu Ray, and I don't mean a postcard.

Here is the post (just click on spoiler):

https://forum.blu-ray.com/australia/...ml#post5452222

They look heavily compressed and just horrible compared to how it looks in motion, so those shots certainly shouldn't stop you from getting it because for a Universal release, it looks very good.

Hi,
Thanks a lot for the precious link.
I think I will buy the UK boxset to get Barton and Crualty on Blu.
Hope it's really the same transfer for the first one as I like the caps even with the noise in the PQ.

Mind that boxset is still £14.99 http://www.zavvi.com/blu-ray/the-coe.../10549758.html £0.99 shipping to France.

Or the single release from Australia is on sale http://www.jbhifionline.com.au/defau...?T=26&P=657784 A$11.19 + shipping
