Default So you decided on Blu-ray, but what made you finally buy it?

We all have the obvious answers in common. Best technology, best picture, best sound, most support, etc. But what "moved" you to finally bite and buy it?

Like most of us, I waited for the price to drop. I decided on blu-ray a long time ago and figured on buying it about the time Spider-Man 3 comes out on video. I figured by then the format war would be pretty much settled. Then along came Paramount....sigh.

Anyway, while my love of Spider-man seriously made me consider blu-ray this year, it was while the movie credits were rolling for Transformers I decided, "I'm getting blu-ray.... because of this movie." I was looking at players on the Sony site researching players. I saw the second gen player and decided, "Today is the day." Week after getting the player, the announcement was made. I was angry for at least a week or two. !$@#%&*! Paramount.

After I settled down and got over it, I kept seeing reassuring news that blu-ray would win. Polls and opinions mean little. We are winning in sales, and we gain a little more exclusive support each day. I am not regretting my choice AT ALL. Plenty of other great movies will keep me occupied.

I also wanted to utilize my HDTV to a fuller potential. What made you bite the bullet?

"Let's just say it MOVED me. ...To a bigger house! Oh crap. I said the loud part quite and the quite part loud." - Krusty the Clown / The Simpsons

I went blu in August 2006. The only reason was SPACE => Fewer backup media

I chose blu-ray because I like pro-grade electronics and the best hi-def media.

What other answers do you need besides the obvious? Best technology, best audio, best picture, more space, best studios, and more manufactureres..... who needs any more reason than that!!!

After months of trying to convince wife... saw a split screen demo at BB
when she saw them side by side ( SD vs Blu ) the fight was over and we walked home with our panny in tow ( just happened to be a 15% off week-end !! ) I'dd had a BD on my shelf ( 5th D ) since before time, just waiting, then I had to send it back to get the new one

I always knew I would go blu when I stepped up to HD. I just waited on the PS3
price drop before taking the plunge. I still haven't bought any games, just blu-rays

I had been reading a bunch of articles but had every intention of staying out of the format war. One day I read this great "My Two Cents" by Bill Hunt and his rationale convinced me that Blu Ray would be the best way to go.

But I didn't take the plunge until I found out the Panasonic came with 5 free movies in the box, and that there was an additional 5 free movies by mail in rebate.

I returned 9 of the 10 free movies (I kept Pirates of the Carribean) at Best Buy (said they were gifts with no receipt), got a store credit and used it to pick up 9 movies over time that I really wanted. I actually have enough credit left to grab Underworld today.

For me it was all about the picture. While shopping for Christmas gifts this past December, I saw the Sony HD DLP and was in total shock from the picture quality compared to the price. 1080p was incredible, and about a month later I broke down and bought the TV from Vanns.com. Once it was home, and I put in a movie, the video quality of a regular DVD was apparent. I had been keeping track of the format war for a while, and I knew that in the end, blu-ray would come out on top. So long story short, I guess you could say it was finally having a TV that could show off what blu could do that made me decide to buy...

PS3 - I'm a huge Gran Turismo fan and was planning on upgrading anyway, but when I found out they included the Blu-Ray player I was really psyched! I'm also a huge movie fan and had seen the Blu-Ray's demonstrated so it was the obvious choice.

You wanna know when I bought Blu-Ray?

I walked into Best Buy on a mission to get a Toshiba HD-DVD player. I stopped by the movie section, saw many HD-DVD movies that I kinda wanted, many I owned on Blu-Ray. I then saw the Blu-Ray movie section and there were many many movies I wanted and did not own.

I proceeded to the player section. Once again, many players from many companies and a few players from one company. I don't know what it was, but something clicked in my head and I walked out with a brand new Blu-Ray player!!!!

Since then I have purchased 2 more players and countless movies.

Disney.. Thanks to Disney, I knew Blu before I knew about HD-DVD.. so I learned the differences between the two, found out about how many studios were blu-exclusive, and voilą.. I went blu.
