Daytona USA Set For an HD Comeback?

A new rating for a Daytona USA video game has appeared on the Australian Classification Board website.

It's probably a sign Sega is preparing its seminal arcade classic for an HD re-release via Xbox Live Arcade and/or the PlayStation Network. The House That Sonic Built released Crazy Taxi on both XBLA and the PSN in November last year.

A Daytona USA update was re-released in arcades in 2010 as Sega Racing Classic. The name was reportedly changed due to Sega no longer holding Daytona naming rights. That may have changed.

We reached out to Sega for clarification but our local representative was unable to make any official comment.

Finally, the Europeans might actually get to play this game online (seeing as the online play was taken out of the Dreamcast version). Good on Sega for this.

Opinions other than you can basically get all the trophies in about 20 minutes?

It was cool, no doubt, and the HD transfer is top notch, but racing games have come so far since the days of Daytona that this just feels--not so great.

3 super short tracks, a few cars, (maybe a couple horses, i'm not sure if they added those too) and that's about it.

This is why I didn't purchase the game. I also got the email but after watching videos, and getting nostalgic, I didn't feel that I would play this game a lot.
