Default BIOSHOCK - City of Lost Blu-ray?

Are there any BIOSHOCK fans out there? If you're a fan of the game BIOSHOCK, then you should make it a priority to see the foreign film City of Lost Children.

City of Lost Children (1995) is undoubtedly the movie that inspired the game BIOSHOCK. If you thought BIOSHOCK was great, wait until you see City of Lost Children. It's brilliant! One of the greatest films in the science-fiction genre of all-time.

City of Lost Children is in my Top 10 Films of All-Time. My only problem is, Where's the Damn Blu-ray!!!

Plot Summary: (no spoiler)
The Evil Scientist Krank is tormented by his inability to dream. Krank kidnaps children in order to steal their dreams. The problem is, once the children are kidnapped they have nightmares.

Keep in mind, this is a French Film with english subtitles. La Cité des enfants perdus.

Perhaps, but I think the MANY had more reference to the enemies and some of the inner thinking of the bad guys... as that was what the group in the previous game was...

I kept thinking about the old Disney film 20,000 Leagues Under the Sea while playing it. I even made a point of watching it after I was done with the game.

Because it's not real. It's a STD DVD It needs to be released on Blu-ray. It's a moral imperative.

I love the game and the movie, but I don't believe City of Lost Children was much of an influence on Bioshock. The novel Atlas Shrugged by Ayn Rand is a much stronger and more direct influence on the game.

To those folks looking to rent City of Lost Children, I would also recommend Jean-Pierre Jeunet's other movies (especially the film Amelie).

You're so far off base that you're playing baseball on mars. If you look up BIOSHOCK2 TRAILER on YOUTUBE, you will see that City of Lost Children was used for the trailer.

You obviously are thinking of a different film. City of Lost Children is by far the greatest accomplishment of both Caro & Jeunet's careers. Aliens 3, Deli and Amelie don't compare in any aspect of film making. City oLC is a visual juggernaut and a recognized milestone in film history. BIOSHOCK actual mimics the DP's work on City oLC.

I have to agree with superdynamite on this one. you must be thinking of a different movie. city of lost children might as well have been called bioshock. it looks like the game to a "T".

Actually I believe that witheygull is correct. Not sure what Bioshock 2 is based off of, but the original was based on Atlas Shrugged. I'll see if I can find an interview with the developers where they state that the premise of the game was pulled from Atlas Shrugged.

On a side note, the movie and the game do have striking similarities as do the novel and the game. I'm sure that it is possible to pool ideas from different sources, but whichever the main influence for the game, the end result was fantastic.

Not off base at all. A quick Google search will confirm that many agree with witheygull. The influence of Ayn Rand and Objectivism can be clearly seen in Bioshock. Just listen to the opening description of Rapture by Andrew Ryan. Ayn Rand is also nearly and anagram for Andrew Ryan. Coincidence? Probably not.

great great movie
I wouldn' advise Amelie so much, imho it's a dumbed down and viewer friendly version of Delicatessen

After playing Bioshock and reading this article I had to get a copy of this movie sent to me. Just finished watching the movie, and I can honestly say that it was a really good movie. I can see similarities with Bioshock which is not a bad thing at all. This is definitely a rental if you even remotely liked Bioshock. Thanks for the recommendation

Judging from the title, the cover art, and this plot summary alone, the movie sounds very, very dumb.

But hey, a majority here seem to think it's wonderful, so I'll give it a rent someday.

My only experience with Bioshock is with the Demo. I have yet to play the full game, but the intro immediately had me thinking of Atlas Shrugged by Ayn Rand. Probably one of my favorite books.
