Default D-Link DAP-1522 802.11N wireless bridge for my PS3

Guys, I would like to share my extreme satisfaction with the new addition to my home network. I just bought a D-Link DAP-1522 Wireless N Bridge. Highly recommended!!! Combined with my D-Link DIR-655 Wireless N router I now have pure N range wireless network with average speeds between 40 and 60 Mbps. I placed the bridge behind my TV in the family room, switched PS3 from internal wireless G adapter to the wired connection to the DAP-1522 bridge and the speed of the wireless connection tripled at least.
If I had occasional stuttering while streaming HD with the original PS3 wireless adapter, now everything plays smooth, as if my PS3 is hard wired to the router.
Now, you will say there are dozens of various N range wireless bridges out there. True, but D-Link DAP-1522 seems to be the only one that has not one but 4 Gigabit LAN ports on the back - in other words it has an integrated 4 port Gigabit network switch. Now I can connect multiple devices to the same bridge, not just my PS3.
Setup was a breeze: both DAP-1522 and DIR-655 support WPS (WiFi Protected Setup), so all you need to set it up on your network is:
- unpack and power your DAP-1522 up;
- Press WPS button;
- go to your router and press WPS button there
...and within seconds the two devices are talking to each other. This does not come any easier. Now you can connect PCs, PS3 and other devices to your DAP-1522 bridge.

My streaming setup now is:
PC (with PS3 Media Server) => D-Link DIR-655 => D-Link DAP-1522 => PS3/Receiver/TV. PS3 Media Server is THE Best media server for PS3, way better than Tversity, Twonky and the rest.
The only thing that slightly bothers me is that I have to run my PC to stream media to the PS3. One of the scenarios I am considering as a next step is:
HP EX485 (with PS3 Media Server installed instead of Twonky) => DAP-1522 => PS3/Receiver/TV.

I am not associated with D-Link, so do not take this as a cheap advertisement. This things works indeed and I can see how it can help many people here to optimize their PS3 setup.

Nice! I'm glad to see it works well!

I had ordered to get the DAP-1522 but after a couple of months my order never got shipped and I canceled it... Maybe now they have it in stock!

Default PS3 802.11n bridge

I'll second what TauRus has to say. I have the identical setup after purchasing the D-Link 1522 802.11n bridge this evening. What a difference! After being disappointed in the wireless adaptor in the PS3, I was looking for any performance boost I could get.

Don't expect a major change in your internet speed - That isn't what 802.11n is about. But you can expect a major change in your network's media performance. Windows Media Center and other streaming applications work so much better.

Downloads from the PSN Store benefit from a wired connection as well. I am experiencing approximately a 2X speed increase. Don't get me wrong, it is still slow but better.

If you can't plug directly into your router due to where the location of your PS3 is, consider a 802.11n bridge. You won't be disappointed.

Default ? On setup

Hey Everyone....stumbled across your thread. I didn't have the success in setup that you had. Push button didn't work to set it up. Called and they walked me thru changing some setting to get it set up. They say everything was completed and set up....hung up with them...

Went to connect my ps3 to the 1522 and went thru the network setup feature and I'm at a bit of a loss. Can someone post directions on the setup? I tried doing a 'wired' setup since i figured the ps3 is wired to the dlink 1522.

When doing the 'easy' setup on the ps3, the blue light comes on on the 1522 where it is plugged in....but i get an error in the settup...the attempt to obtain an ip address timed out. I don't know what to change under the custom settings that would get it to work.....

Any helpers out there..... so want to have this connection made so my streaming gets better from my media smart 495 server!

This sounds like the exact thing I am looking for. Currently tried the D-Link Powerline Networking kit, and it works flawlessly with my Pioneer Kuro HOWEVER If I introduce a PS3 and a Blu-Ray Player, I am going to need more then one connection. The D-Link Powerline only supports one CAT-5 cable connection.

Even tho the PS3 has WIFI built in, its Mps is awful, and I get disconnected frequently, Does anyone know if this wireless bridge will work allot better then the Wifi in the PS3?

Last question, does this device (D-Link DAP-1522 wireless bridge) work with Linksys routers, or should I be looking at upgrading my Wireless-G Router to a Wireless-N "D-LINK Rouer" in the process?

Any info greatly appreciated.

Manufacturers of wireless networking products are part of the "Wifi Alliance" where membership mandates that their devices will be able to work with each other.

Did you upgrade the firmware first? My concern with buying that product, whose price I've been following for the last few months is that it might still be a Draft N 2.0 product. That will be okay for now but 1-2 years down the line when I upgrade my router to a certified N router I don't want my dap-1522 to be a brick.

Thumbs up Love it!

I just got the DAP-1522 bridge/access point. I recommend it highly!

I swapped out my former wireless G bridge, which worked fine but streamed media horribly. Now my PS3 can recognize more media on the network, it recognizes the media faster, and it streams a lot better. I have tested PS3 Media Server and Tversity for serving my media with the bridge with good results.

I have a Netgear WNR854T router in dual-mode, which works okay, but I still get a little skipping in spots. Accordingly, I'm looking to upgrade my router, hoping that it is the router that is the weak link. Any suggestions?

For what its worth, I noticed that the system serving the media has a big impact on the quality of the stream. I tested streaming on a 3-year old AMD laptop (it's not a super fast system) and a 3GHz Core 2 Duo desktop. The desktop streams with substantially fewer hiccups, the media is recognized a lot faster by the PS3, and it's a much more enjoyable user experience overall.

Glad to her you guys liked the bridge as well.

Scrappydog, I think you are absolutely right: since during media streaming there a lot of transcoding taking place on the PC end, a more powerful PC will certainly do a better job.

Hi - I've been having the exact same problem. My wireless bridge is all set up and I can see it on the network...but for some reason I can't get my PS3 to connect to the internet with it. I tried the "easy" setup and get the same error message as you. I also tried the custom setup using the wired connection. Did you have any luck in getting yours to work? Does anyone know what I'm doing wrong? Any help would be greatly appreciated!!

In my case the bridge worked pretty much out of the box. I just followed the "easy" setup steps. I still have this bridge, now I have a PS# and a PC connected to it. With PS3 Media Server, the files are transcoded and sent to the PS3. Speeds are good allowing for 1080p material viewing without dropped frames or freezes.
After the first bridge, I bought a second one and connected it to a PC on the second floor. And again, I had no issues with the setup. Off the top if my head, first you connect the bridge to the power source but do not attach any PCs or PS3 to it. Push the WPS button on the bridge, then within 120 seconds push the wPS button on the router. After some negotiation they will connect. Once this is done, connect PS3 and/or PCs. They should connect via the bridge at this point.

When I try the "easy" setting on the PS3, it times out because it cant get an IP address. When I try giving it a static IP under the custom wired setting, it gets an IP successfully but still cant connect to the internet.

I just got this same setup tonight (DIR 655, DAP 1522). None of the easy setup options worked, so they walked me through manually configured the DAP by connecting it directly to my PC. We got it configured, and I moved the DAP to my home theater room. I connected my AVR and my DIRECTV DVR to it, and they both got an IP and were able to see the internet. However, the PS3, previously on a Wireless connection directly to my old router, when I tried to configure the wired connection, it gets an IP, and even says the playstation network is available, but fails on the upload/download test. Any ideas???

Thanks!

Jason

Quick question from someone who isn't too familiar with Home Networking,

I currently have my Upstairs PS3 wired directly to my Wireless N Router. With this setup, streaming HD video from my Laptop, (also Wireless N), is still choppy. Would this bridge help out or are 10-12 Gig files just too big to stream wirelessly, N or otherwise.

Thanks,

Yep. Works great. Been using it since last July. 4 out of 5 stars review average on almost 200 ratings on Amazon.

I actually use it on my Dish DVR. Now dish has On Demand via the internet on some of its DVR. Works great. I would get one for my PS3 but the two I use wireless have no issues including 1080p on Netflix.

Default Help!!!

The manual in for the dap-1522 is not written very well. I have a netgear wgr614v7 router and it works fine. I am trying to extend my cable internet to another room with the drink dap-1522. I seem to connect to the bridge when I am directly connected to it on my laptop, but when I take it in the living room, my bluray and tv do not connect to the internet when connected via cable to the bridge device. What am I doing wrong?

Thanks.
