Default Organizing Steelbooks in your collection

I was thinking of reorganizing my steelbooks and putting them all together instead of alphabetical, my concern is when I pull them in and out is there a greater danger of scratches?

Get some plastic sleeves, they're dirt cheap on ebay

Search "OPP blu-ray" (OPP is the type of plastic)

I'm looking on ebay.ca and I can get 100 of 'em for $5.75 after shipping

EDIT: Oh, you're in Canada too

How dandy! Here's the link then

I actually went from having them all together to putting them alphabetical with the rest of my collection. It doesn't bother me as much as I thought it would.

I wouldn't worry too much about scratches, but if you're super concerned you can always get clear plastic sleeves for them.. They don't look as good in them as without but it does protect them. I used to have all mine in them, but decided I'd rather look at them in all their glory than have them in the shiny clear plastic that detracts from them somewhat.

Actually you don't want the Blu-ray sized ones, they won't fit the thickness of the Steelbook. You actually need the DVD ones. They are taller bags, but fit the width perfectly. If you trim the top off with a paper trimmer the flap on the back will be perfect.

These are the ones to get (14mm): http://www.amazon.com/Plastic-Standa...ywords=opp+dvd

Nice! Thanks for the link, I wasn't planning on putting plastic over them though. I want to be able to see the spine not sure if you can with plastic.

Yeah, you definitely want to get those sleeves if you plan on putting your steels together. Not only do they protect em' from scratches. but I think they look a lot nicer in them. Also, look into display stands.

Again, don't get the ones linked, look for 14mm bags. You can see the spine, but at least with the 14mm ones there's a seam up the middle which I feel detracts from the look on your shelf.

maybe I'm wrong but if you put the cardboard back that comes with it between them, wouldn't it help keep them from touching and scratching? or put something else between them like that that'll not take up much space but keep them from touching

Are you sure the bluray size will not fit steels?

Yeah I did that before I got sleeves... but I switched to plastic sleeves mostly to keep dust of them.

Pretty sure. Even the 14mm ones are a bit of a tight fit. Feel free to try yourself though

But at least everything is minty when you remove it from the plastic...

I don't really care what my spines look like if the front/back of the steelbooks are dented or scratched

Also, thanks to the above posters for pointing out the width issue with steelbooks. I havent actually invested in any for movies (all of my CDs have sleeves ) but now that you mention it, I remember reading about steelbooks not fitting in the 12mm sleeves, I meant to look into it before actually purchasing any.

I guess digibooks need the DVD sleeves as well, I don't know if they're as thick as steelbooks (the single disc ones are probably pretty close, the double disc ones are much thicker), but they are taller than amaray/steel cases.

I haven't been able to find any sleeves for box sets (Alien, Star Wars, etc.), it doesn't really surprise me, as I doubt they would sell anywhere near as many packs as the regular sleeves, but it would be nice to have something to protect them. Same with the double CD cases, havent found anything for them either.

EDIT: Actually I did find double jewel case sleeves (unrelated to blu, I know ). 2 listings on ebay, 10 sleeves for $7 or 100 sleeves for $10

Im actually using the blu ray size ones...They are very tight, but once you get it in,it looks fantastic!!..I also go a step further and use the gloss "invincible scotch tape" to tape down the bottom edges and top hangovers..Im sure it sounds awful, but it looks like they are still in the shrinkwrap!!

I'm sure using the 12mm sleeves will pull the creases right out of the sides = no problem viewing the spines

I think most people in this thread used the 14mm ones too

https://forum.blu-ray.com/showthread...ght=protecting

Maybe I'll order some 12mm ones and test myself. They're fairly cheap so it wouldn't be a big loss and I'm sure I'd find use for them anyway

edit: a review for a 12mm at Amazon said this:

Quote:
I have recently purchased 100 OPP Bags for 12mm Blu-ray case hoping it will fit my blu ray steelbook based on an internet recommendation. The product came promptly and in very good condition. But, my steelbook did not* fit. I contacted the vendor StarTechDeals and was very pleasantly surprised by an immediate respond. The customer rep was very courtesy in explaining to me that these bags are not meant for blu ray steelbook and immediately offered and refunded me the purchase with no further questions ask. I am very happy with such customer service would definitely purchase products from StarTechDeals in the future.

*They actually wrote "did the" but if you read it, I'm sure they meant did not.

According to that link, the sleeves from bagsunlimited fit tightly, but the resealable 12mm ones do not.

I plan on eventually ordering both 12mm and 14mm (for DVDs) anyways, but if you're only looking for protecting steelbooks, sounds like 14mm is the way to go
