DVD's were outselling Blu-rays for a long time, but I believe Blu-rays now outsell DVD's right?
The reason I ask is because Fargo: Season 3 didn't get a U.S. Blu-ray and it got a DVD. Not sure what the logic is, but at this point, I'm pretty sure most people are Blu-ray capable. I can understand if something that isn't great gets a DVD only release, but something of Fargo quality missing a Blu release is a travesty. |

I think there was a specific week or month when Blu-ray beat DVD, maybe when "Force Awakens" was released or something like that. Overall, pretty sure DVD still out-sells Blu-ray in general, based on stores like Wal-mart that still carry more DVDs than Blu-ray.

I think the key stat here is that the Rental business is still a $390,000,000 per year business. Where are these stores and what can I do to support them? I had a local store "Old Skool Video" open up just over 1 year ago that rents VHS, DVD, Laserdisc, and Blu Ray along with selling posters and other fun items. I obtained a VCR just to support them and Rented Demon Wind, Ilsa She Wolf of the SS and The Return of the Texas Chainsaw Massacre last year all on VHS when I made my first rentals just so I could relive the sights and sounds of my youth. I had never viewed any of these films so getting to experience them in a very similar way to how I was exposed to so many horror films in the early 90's was a bit of a nostalgia dream come true.

DVD has no reason to go anywhere with that kind of marketshare and money. Plus, there is still plenty of content not sourced in in hd like older amateur movies and tv shows shot or edited on video, etc. Likewise, there's an abundance of content that will never work on uhd.

Please, don't get me wrong - I most certainly enjoy blockbusters and popcorn movies too (see my avatar!), but for whatever reason, I didn't buy many released last year.
