I liked the movie for the cast and their performances. Even though there weren't any stand out performances, it did a pretty good job at representing the time and era for those kinds of cops in LA. Corruption, high crimes, alcoholism, infidelity....okay, I suppose things haven't changed much, but they seemed to do it with so much more class back then.

Maybe they thought Kino Lorber Studio Classics and Other Newer Stuff MGM Still Has the Rights To But Doesn't Want to Release Themselves would look clunky on all the boxes.
For my money, if MGM owns it and has a decent master ready they can't shovel them over to Kino fast enough. |

Exactly. MGM is sitting on a gold mine when it comes to catalog titles. They just don't have the finances to release a lot of them right now. Another great MGM property is "Gotham" with Tommy Lee Jones. How about "Needful Things" with Ed Harris? I could go on and on. |

Hmm, interesting. This is a film I'm on the fence about. The first time I saw it (around the time it came out on VHS) I thought it was fantastic. When I saw it again more recently I found it to be a bit hokey at times and paled in comparison to the similar L.A. Confidential. Still, it's not bad and has a decent cast. This was back when Jennifer Connelly was still very curvaceous.

Awesome! This is a really underrated movie. It's one of the better neo-noirs out there.

I said this in the main Studio Classics thread (or one of the other title threads) but I'd be very happy if these were on par with The Apartment and Manhattan and Rebecca and the like. If they're more along the lines of The Graduate and Midnight Cowboy, well, that would be okay too but I'm hoping for better. |
