Canada Hello Mods...What happened to the smoking thread?

We had a "Smoking" thread on the Genaral Chat board which was removed and I'm curious as to why? It had diverse opinions and there wasn't any 'over the top" or hateful posts. Why was it removed?

I had a thread as well that I started here a week or two ago and it was removed for some unknown reason. Now, I certainly don't mind mods deleting threads, but at least send me a PM letting me know why it had to be deleted. Or reply to the thread mentioning why they don't like it and then lock it. At least inform me of the reason. That's all I ask.

filmnut5, I'd imagine it had to do with Beasley's posts.

You mean this one?

Probably not, but it's been around much longer.

That thread was removed due to insults and fighting between members. If it is something blu-ray related we clean the thread and moderate the offending parties as needed. However, something off topic that is just going to cause issues, will be removed.

The intent wasn't to cause issues.. I always thought general chat was about off topic stuff that isn't about blu-rays. I thought it was news worth posting.

Thanks for the response guys. I may have been partly to blame by using the term p*ss off when referring to the genrality of some non-smokers. I did however enjoy the back and forth and was speaking from the heart. Most importantly, I did learn a few things regarding the non-smokers perspective and that's a good thing.

I am sure the thought of posting the thread was noble, some topics just seems to derail into polarizing arguments .

Not to mention the thread was moving to the topic of governmental regulation/taxation, which was inevitably going to cause problems.

Just quit. Your health will get better, and you'll have more money for Blu-rays.

That's you and the rest of the staff's prerogative Blu. However, as someone else pointed out, it would be nice to either lock the thread down or let the OP know that you took the thread down. I appreciate the staffs diligence, but this seems to happen way to often around here. It only takes a few minutes out of your day and is just common courtesy.

Having been a Moderator for over a year & a half now, Threads are not removed or locked as much as you seem to think they are. If a thread is removed then there is a good reason for it, Not because one of us Mods felt like it.

I understand your position. However, we only "dump" threads that do not involve Blu-ray, movies, or basically anything unless it is "chat" related. Sure, we could take all of the bickering, insults, ect. and then lock a "problematic" thread. However, to most, the thread will then appear "perfectly fine" and they will question/object to the thread being closed .

I think, a good alternative could be to clean the thread, lock it with a final post by the mod indicating the reason it is closed. If the members would prefer this, I wold follow that patten in the future.

I for one vote for this option, at least then we will know what's going on

Seconded and thanks for your reply Blu and CB. Please understand I'm not knocking you. I've worn a staff badge on more than one occasion and realize what a pain in the ass it can be at times
