Thumbs down Oceans 13 is here (PICS) Blu-ray

Hello Blu-ray m8's

I just picked up 'Oceans 13' on Blu-ray last week!

(i apologize for the bad image quality, i used my cellphone for this pictures )

The FACTS:

-Warner Bros is using VC-1 videocodec.
-Unfortunately its only a BD 25 GB
-Mbps are sometimes down to 4.9mbps (result of it: VERY soft picture)
-Maximum mbps 29
-Blu-ray got the same copy transfer as the HD DVD
(so actually its a HD DVD , since its optimized for HD DVD specs. and not fpr Blu-ray specs.)

Its the german release, yes, but there is no doubt the US version will get a different transfer, i can promise that!
And AUDIO, i cant tell what audio the US version will get, the german version dont have any uncompressed HD Sound, no Lossless Sound just a simple Dolby Digital Track , pretty SAD

DD English
DD German
DD French
DD Italian
DD Spanish

Well lets go for the picture quality.

Since it is an Day&Date , a absolut new transfer, i have to say honestly its the worst transfer i have ever bought!

I can tell HONESTLY there is not a single scene in this movie wich is HD reference. The Bitrates are between 12 - 22 mbps. In some scenes even 4.9mbps. The result very unsharp image, maybe its done by purpose? I dont know.

The movie shows alot of grain, but not normal film grain like on other movies like '300' for example. More a grain with litle artefacts in it, very annoying.
hard to describe.

Yet another poor Warner Transfer unfortunately.

But i think you will agree with me, when you all get the Blu-ray

LET ME ADD 1 THING!!

The DVD also look very ****

So maybe its the lousy Master?

But in MY opinion i think, FOX, Disney or SONY could make this one better, with a high bitrate AVC release on a 50GB BD + PCM, TrueHD or DTS MA.

im really 100% blu, (for those who think i try to FUD here because bashing the PQ of oceans 13) but this is really the worst HD DVD i have ever seen (i dont call it blu-ray on purpose since its a 100% copy from the HD DVD version, optimized for HD DVD specs.)

The movie itself, its AWESOME! but everyone have diferent tastes :]

WB is pissing me off as they are using the same transfer for Blu-ray that they are using for HD-DVD. I feel if WB put the extra money into developing a Blu-ray specific release, the difference in quality could potentially be seen. Come on WB, get your act together. Hopefully the US version will be a little better.

Nope it wont, like the other german WB Blu-rays, they are all the same transfers like the US versions, except 'the island' of course, since it is another distribution.

I just noticed that the review is for the German version, NOT the US version. The US version may be different and better.... I'm buying one, so I'm curious to see the difference.

Thank you for the confirmation!
Yes idd, the DVD looks horrible, the BD/HDDVD just looks slightly better.

It looked pretty terrible theatrically as well. Extremely soft and overprocessed.

BD-25 explains the lack of uncompressed audio

It's likely the exact same disc the US will get

According to highdefdigest, the US version should be a BD-50

It might be that WB figures we will buy titles that they are using off of transfers from HD-DVD?

It sounds like from last few comments on different titles, this may be the case and we might have to say no to these titles and we will see a change? If no one buys, it could send a message, but may be a bad message for us as well. What do you do in this case??

I'm canceling my intention to buy the trilogy.

This is like buying a PS3 and having a company make SNES-quality games. What's the damn point?

Here's what we do. We start a PR campaign to address the issue. It will start with a form letter being created. Each person will print it out, sign it and mail (postal) it to WB.

A news release will be issued stating that this is being done and why.

And so forth. It will get attention.

The press release said DD+ for the BLu versions
