I have had this player for about a month.I had a Samsung 1400 before it.I noticed right away the PQ was better and the colour was just more intense.

Having a Yamaha Receiver was also a bonus just because it looks so Dam good with it .
I've had no problems with playback with any movies .
After having a Samsung player. The loading times are amazing.
I find it as good or better then my Ps3.I feel very lucky to have this player in my system.

Please share anything you like about this player or even Dislike about the BD-S2900.

This thread is for Support. So feel free to let loose and use it

Did u pick this up from Gibby's? Im in Niagara as well..... I would really like to purchase this but feel the price is too crazy for me... $999.99 is way too high for me and looks aside I would feel there would have to be a HUGE difference from my PS3 to justify this.... Im sure the quality is there but how much better would it be then a Panasonic for half this price.

Yes i got it at Gibbys for 699
the PQ is as good as any new Panasonic (From what i understand,I don't know this first hand). The Yamaha does use some Panasonic Parts. So maybe thats what you should be looking at

For me the Build quality is Better then the Panasonic Players,You can just tell that by the weight (12.8 pounds). The 12 bit deep colour is simply amazing on this player and like i said goes very well with my reciever.

I would not spend 1000 on any player. The price should go down more in time.I truly belive this player isn't for just anyone.I trust in Yamaha ,I always have. But Panasonic has some good players out there with killer price points.

I am by no means putting down this unit as I am a HUGE Yamaha Fan and have been for years and years... I know their quality is right up there with the best. Just not really liking the $999.99 base MSRP... I will wait for prices to come down before I pull the trigger... PS3 is doing fine for the time being !

I do really want to bitstream to my new receiver though as I feel the sound will be better ! Keep us updated on how this performs as time goes by...

I didn't think you were putting the player down as well ,I am just saying Panasonic puts out great players and if i didn't have the budget to have this Yamaha player i would of probably went Panasonic. That's the truth

I will definitely stay on top of this thread and let you know how my players is.I do want to let you know as well i do agree 1000 buck is to much (in my opinion)

Hey Ozz,

Is the player profile 2.0 (BD-Live)? I see a slot in the front. Is that for the BD-Live or something else?

The Yamaha Player is Profile 1.0 version
1.1 compatibility
The slot on the front is for a SD card, you can play data in AVCHD format recorded on a SD card.

This player has Bonus View but not BD Live,The player has taken a lot of slack because of this and some consumers can't justify the price tag.

I was O.K with this just for the simple fact that it wasn't important to me.
All i wanted was a high end player to watch my Blu movies on and i very happy with the results

But for some this is a big Deal Breaker

I think Yamaha is starting to get that 1000 bucks is to much(and rightly so)

Here it is for 599 Canadian and with these guy's you can drop the tax.
I can see this player going as low as 499 in a couple more months

I thought seriously about buying this unit when i first heard about it. But i own the RX-V2700 reciever and the 2900 dose not do internal decoding of Dolby True HD or DTS-HD Master Audio (which is what I want). For that feature i can get better (The OPPO BDP-83) for less.

Yes i am surprised that The 2900 doesn't decode internally. It was made strictly for receivers that decode.
That's why i know this player isn't for anyone.

I just want to add that i am impressed with me not needing firmware so far. I just bought Mirrors,Stepbrothers and Repo Man the opera (The musical) and runs beautifully.

The 3 i mentioned does not play on my 1400 Samsung (gave to my son) he needs firmware

well I have a bdp2500 and all those movies work with no firmware upgrade needed, and has internal decoding of all audio formats, plus it has an HQV chip for ridiculous good upscaling and BD Live, Netflix streaming, and 7.1 analog out, I'm not trying to do anything but show you that the Yamaha isn't that high end of a player when compared to others with a price tag under $400. There's no excuse for this it pretty much lacks every high end feature, and is equivelent to last generation players for a very over priced tag with no defense of why it's so expensive. I appologize for being so direct with my opinion but let's call a spade a spade...

You don't have to apologize friend.I see your point.

If we compared a blu-ray movie with the Bdp 2500 and the 2900 i would have a funny feeling you would see an improvement in the picture. Not an overwhelming improvement ,but an improvement (definitely in the color).

The price tag has been coming down so it's not that crazy $1000 tag.
You can find them for around 500 now.

The 2900 does fall short in many area's that you pointed out.
I was someone that didn't need internal decoding and any analog out.Which could be a deal breaker for some.

What i was looking for was a blu-ray player that did an awesome job of playing blu movies and i personally found it in the 2900 and having a RX-V3800 Yamaha reciever it was a no-brainer for me

New firmware came out.

The first firmware was Version 1.1 (improves Blu-ray playback with 24p frame rate setting)

The new Firmware is Version 1.2 (improves PiP, Picture in Picture video playback)

I just called them and there mailing the firmware out to me ,so i suggest to do the same just to stay on top of things

Just punch in BD-S2900 and it will show the latest firmware

ozzman, I haven't heard of any "Twilight" trouble on the 2900. Can you explain the problem?

The movie shows that its loading up then shows STOP on the player,There are other companies that are having the same problem

I will say for me this is the only movie so far that has been giving the S2900 problems(as far as i know)
