Help adjusting TV to dark movie - Blu-ray Forum

I just finished watching Dracula on BR and noticed that the movie was very dark when compared to the DVD version. It is so dark that I feel like I am missing out on the movie. For example, Keanu Reeves is wearing a suit that has stripes on it. On BR, the suit just looks black. Also, I can't see what is in the shadows usually, but on the DVD, I can see what is going on. I don't think the director intended for most of the movie to be blacked out, so I think maybe my TV needs some adjustment. Any ideas? This is the Sony XBR4, by the way.

i have a sharp and theres a setting in the advanced menu, you can turn on and off the black adapter your tv prob has something similar to this.

it is darker evidently.

Oops... I must have accidentally set the Black Corrector to High when messing with the settings. I turned it off and can now barely see the stripes on the suit, so that helped a little. The BR movie is just much darker than the DVD,

Messed around with the settings on the ps3 and got the dark scenes to look better. I turned off super-white and cross color reduction filter. Just an FYI for anyone with the XBR4.

The movie has been completely color timed. It's supposed to look like that.

You should turn back on SuperWhite

I think you're right. I turned everything back on and it looks about the same. I think it's because I'm sitting too far that the dark scenes blend in. I was sitting close when adjusting the settings, and I was able to see what's in the shadows.
